Can we tell much about a society's idea and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people? The speaker claims so. I basically agree with the speaker that the way people look, dress, and act reflects their attitudes and interests. The first thing that I want to state, is that we can probably tell a lot about a society's ideas and values by perceiving the way people dress in that society, simply because culture of one society determines people's wearing. In the Middle-East, people of Muslim are wearing green or white cloak, turban, garments;这个例子没体现出Muslim文化,呵呵最好补充一下。 when we travel around the world, we see every culture has it's own sort of costumes, even the native Indians, their dressing are telling us that they live in the forest and make a living by hunting. So next time when we are trying to understand some culture, we perceive their dressing, then we could tell much about a culture, and then their ideas by the means that comparing them to similar cultures or the knowledge of a certain culture. Turning to the next, by observing the behavior of a society's people, such as the way people talking, listening and even eating, we can tell its common attitudes, senses of worth and interests. The way Englishmen treat towards ladies claims that they are gentlemen; when Chinese patriots died for their motherland in The World War II to eliminate the invaders from their country, we know they are the ones who are willing to give their lives up for their people. If we could not understand a culture by its behavior, then we could not understand a society at all, because observing their behavior(behaviors) is a very easy(这里用appropriate)好些 way for us to know about on their society, and even culture.Nevertheless, the ways mentioned above could not give us an accurate image of the society; it is unfair to judge one society and its people just by observing their appearance and behavior. The reason is that by perceiving the way people look and dress, we could just tell the traditional culture of a society, and try to conjecture and deduce the actual attitude towards everything, since the costumes they wear possibly comes from several centuries ago. For example, when we see people from India, they probably are wearing traditional costumes, that gives us a implication that they are Buddhists, however as we all know today, India are famous for its software companies. On the other hand, even people from England are considered as gentlemen, they are well known for their drunken people, too. For example, observed by appearance and behavior a friend of mine usually behave as a gentleman ,but however he often have a favor of bibulosity which is contracted his gentleman behavior. Many other examples indicate that it is impossible to really understand a society just by perceiving them.To sum up, although it is not fair to judge a society just by their dressing and behavior, it is very necessary to do that, because we can obtain much information about that society form them.
