103"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

Time: 2小时  :funk: 汗!好像太长了

Whether studying history is valuable only insofar as it is relevant to our daily lives?
The speaker’s assertion is speciously convincing, nevertheless it falsely alludes that studying history has little relevance even for the mundane chores that occupy so much of our time each day, and therefore is of little value. To the contrary, studying history enables us understand the development of society more, provides valuable living experience and attitude, thus teaching us how to live.

That’s where not as the speaker thinks to be. Learning about the past might lead to the result that our living becomes more interesting, while we are tire of little nothing of life. When a student finds learning language as dry as chip, after reading the Analects of Confucius, Chinese philosopher whose ideas and sayings were collected after his death and became the basis of a philosophical doctrine known a Confucianism, he or she will find out the importance of the language and language are a way of building bridges between nations, thus developed a taste for language. Studying great human achievements of the past provides precious living experience. For example, Beethoven still insisted on working after he was deaf, and wrote his glorious and outstanding 5th symphony. We can learn courage and conviction from his life. In short, study ancestor’s achievement might help us lift spirits and inspire courage for solving daily living problems.

In addition, History also can cause us understand the change of society, thus cherish our lives at present. Some drivers always complain driving the car is such a bored matter. When they look back the history, they will find development of traffic is dramatic and realize current traffic tool is so convenient. What else could they complain! Moreover many precious historical heritages are adequate for all ages. Genuine education, as Socrates knew more than two thousand years ago, is not inserting the stuffing of information into a person, but rather eliciting knowledge from him; it is drawing out of what is in the mind. From the ancient Chinese author Sun Tzu's book "The Art of War", today's military commanders and even business leaders gather valuable information that allows them to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Besidemistakes of the past can teach us how to avoid repeating those mistakes. The nuclear accidents at Three Mile Island and Chernobyl have been studied to ensure that they do not happen again. Certainly the study of the effects of nuclear materials on humans and the environment provides value beyond that of the day-to-day life of people. The study of oil spills and their effects on the environment gives similar guidance on how to avoid or at least minimize the damage of an oil spill on the environment. The study of the disintegration of the ozone layer over the poles of the earth has given birth to new laws and regulations on certain chemicals that help to preserve this valuable part of our atmosphere. All of these examples of studying history provide value far beyond its impact on the daily lives of people.

In summary, the speaker ignore the history might bring some foreglimpse, education, and vectoring to our life. If studying history has little relevance even for the mundane chores that occupy so much of our time each day, and therefore is of little value, we will loss many experiences and suggestions that will help us to establish a better society.
