TOPIC: ISSUE83 - "Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people."
The speaker's state that government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state. We have to use them for long term development, because these areas are very important to us, even many people do not have direct access to them.
The first thing that I want to claim is that even these areas are not directly accessible to most people, people are benefiting form those faraway areas, because of its potential use. Forests, especially large ones that were not destroyed by human beings, are converting a huge amount of oxygen from carbon oxide, without them, human and other animals will be eventually eliminated by lack of oxygen if we do not have other possible alternative. Undeveloped jungles contain millions of animal and plant species, if they remain wilder, these species will exist longer on the earth and scientists can do research on them for proper use, since those jungles help us protect them. It is necessary to protect wilderness areas like this as well as protect ourselves.
But how could we preserve those wilderness areas? An individual's power and possible contribution are limited, so is a public organization. A company could have that ability to at least protect some of the wilderness areas; however, they are not willing to preserve them in their natural state, because some of these areas contain too many things that could bring them profits, such as woods, endangered species. Facing these profits, government could be the only power that could prevent those wilderness areas from been immoderately used. Most government, such as the U.S. Government, has legislated to restrict the use of such areas. An example is the Yellowstone as a National Park.
Nevertheless, it is unnecessary for us to preserve some of those wilderness areas as what they were, because we can properly use the resource that the nature provided to us to make progress without destroying their natural condition. For instance, a tourism program such as an adventure club to those areas will probably profitable and will not destroy those areas if they know how to protect nature. Scientific research, which do not do harm to those area, could also be done in those areas. These activities are much profitable and reasonable than leave those wilderness areas along.
Furthermore, sometimes we need to change the situation for those areas as they endanger our life in a long term. For example, China is suffering from serious desertification, those sands in north China were blown to Japan by wind every year, and people their suffers from sand storms. Now Japanese Government is willing to provide economic support to China for planting trees in north China. By changing the circumstances in some wilderness areas, people could improve their quality of life.
To sum up, Governments have responsibilities to those wilderness areas, no matter we protect them, or change them.
提纲:
