TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will betruly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individualneeds and interests of each student."
WORDS:405
Which style of education is the most effective? The author give us a answer that only when each student's interest andindividual needs are satisfied will our education obtain the most satisfying outcome. As far as I am concerned, this answer makes sense in most cases, nevertheless,it is too absolute to overlook some factors that we must consider carefully. All my perspectives will be presented as follows.
Admittedly, the education which is suitedto each student is indispensable in college. After many years' learning ofbasic knowledge, college students have come into a new study environment, inwhich they have lots of opportunities to realize the society they will enterinto, and therefore students will quickly find their interests. For example, some students want to get success in the field of business, while some studentsdream to be an honorable doctor. Therefore it is not feasible to give our potentialbusiness supermen or potential medical professors general education, on thecontrary, what they need is specifically designed education which enables themmaster relative realms. From this aspect, specially designed education is significantto students' development.
Furthermore, specifically designededucation is necessary or even desirable to society's advancement. Hundredsyears ago, there is no concept of IT field or MBA, however, human beings havecome through two industry revolution and now come into an information era. Theknowledge is increasingly expanding; thereby more and more subjects have bored. In this background, education must keep up with the society development, whichcalls for education design specific knowledge to each student.
Yet, it is also not feasible to overstatethe specifically designed education. General education is forever indispensablein the progress of students' growth. Although special knowledge satisfies bothstudents and society's need, people cannot overlook the significance of generaleducation which provides basic knowledge like mathematics, science and so on. Onlymaster these knowledge will students accept specific knowledge more quickly andefficiently. Also, if society places overmuch emphasis on specific education, perhaps we will run a risk of fostering students who have little idea ofmorality- in which case our society will develop in a unhealthy way.
In conclusion, I fundamentally admit theauthor’s assertion that specific education satisfies student’s individual needsand interests, for it is also the need of the fast developing world. Yet, it isalso irrational to overlook the function of general education, which providesstudents basic knowledge system and morality. |
