第六次作业：144"It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."

*a person who evaluates works of art, such　as　novels,　films,　music, paintings, etc.

Generally, people would like to attribute  all the greatness of outstanding art works to the persons who create them , only because without them there would be noe these musics , paitings ,poets or architectures evoking all preciouse sensations. However,  in the process of abstracting and describing  the lasting value by the works of  art ,  another important role –the critic whose job is evaluating the artworks is usually ignored ,but nowadays, their importance of edcipherring the connotation works of art and stimulating the development of arts  is increasingly regarded and acknowleged.
On one hand, the critic is usually play a role of thercher or guide to help the readers,listeners ,viewers or the other  average persons who would like to enjoy the beatuy and greatness of the arts .As a stereotype of the artists , always they are of so much personality that in the artworks their concepts and thinkings are usually encoded by some language of art which chould hardly be understood by the average accepters.So ,nomatter intentionally or not , being another groups of prfessionals of art , the critic decipher the content of the artworks to the public in some more acceptable ways such as some review or critical article, in which there may be some conflicts btween the artist and the critic ,but it may be benificial to the lasting of the value in the artworks in the public.
On the other hand , the critic usually become a activator by pointing out the defects and the disadvantages incisively and the thinkings of critiques themselves are also one parts of the lasting value of the artworks.And a good cae in point is Jane Jacbs, a  famouse theorist of urban planning and design.This women had been a journalist and columnist for some well-known magazines and newspapers such as “Times” or “Chicago Tribune” foucusing on the space , function and living style in the different cities. In 1970s ,after experiencing and contitating  more than 20   years , she made a sharply critism to one most outstanding architect and urban deigner -- Le Cobsiour in last century by her literature --“the Death and Life of Great American Cities”.Although the discussions and debates are still continuing between their supporters , both of these tow brilliant experts’ ideas has always been the classic theoroes in the education of  urban planning , which is also a way of giving something of lasting value.So ,undoubtly, the critic is also a positive role in the development of social values.

Admittedly , the acknowledgement  of the critic does not mean the disavowal to the artist.Withou their gorgeous works, like  the archer without taiget, the critic would have no objuects to value , argue and ,eventuly, express their sayements.

In sum,  it is unfair to deny both of the artist and the critic who are likely in conflicts but actully cooperative.However, the ignorance to the achiements of the critic is more serious, so that to convert the embarrassing situation should become more necessary.
