Issue 4 "No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."
提纲:1.的确有些领域的学科例如考古学, 生命科学,需要获得其他科学领域在知识上的帮助才能够有长足的进展。
2. 但是,并非所有的学科都是这样的。。例如。数学,物理学

It seems that the arguer natter too much about the loneliness descending on some fields of study, like little kids can’t stand up and processing to walk without outsiders besides themselves bring them helps. Even it is so when we talk about Archaeology and Life Science. But as to other field of study such as math and physics, things have been different since people begun to know essence of fire and count through the knotting on the lines.
Let’s first turn to Archaeology for some specific details supporting the dependent relationship among Archaeologist and other professors, say, historians, geographers, even chemicals. An archaeologist studies and tries to reconstitute the process that has created the human world in which we live-and us ourselves in so far as we are each creatures of our age and social environment, in this case, in order to detect the information all directing to the detailed process, archaeologists no wonder need helps. When a body is found, historians will be busy with referring to history book to find out the exact time during which this body lived due to the place and surroundings where the body has been found, even as there is no recording in history book, historians have to turn to reference for help regarding their knowledge while geographers accumulate the earth information to deduce the character of the founding spot to connect it to other place so as to extrapolate where is this piece of earth when the body is still alive, what’s more, the deduction from this little origin of this little piece of land may have great contribution to the research on the origin of earth! Whereas the chemicals can hardly give up such a precious time to study the reason resulting from the death, maybe it’s about the invasion of virus or some infection, it is no doubt that this is far away from the archaeologists’ ability, but those chemicals can be greatly surprised by those aging-virus found on the body. Finally, waiting for all information from various aspects coming out, there will be a great of joy for the archaeologist to put these information into the written note and line them into the history book to be remembered by another spring-offs as a significant advances. The things happens the same with Life Science, no matter you want to know clearly how the heart beat or how the circulation system work, without anatomist every imagination will be in vain, if you want to study how cells work, without the help of biologist, I am afraid there can hardly be any great process.
However, things are different with math and physics. Math is famous for its abstract logic content and complicated computing process, and that is the reason for the hardness outsiders can bring any knowledge to bring greats advances, for other reasons, math is a basic subject will do. Therefore, it is weird to say that mathematics can not advance a lot without others’ help, for supporting examples Euclid, Gauss can more or less explain something, after suffering a long time loneliness, geometry or Gauss theorem can already twinkling in math history, no wonder there is an old saying expressing the hard decent situation where all the mathematics in, that is” mathematics either live in loneliness or dead in loneliness”. Well, the situation of physicals is no more better, just look like those theorem physicians, they spent their whole lives doing researching on decent subjects that common people may probably not understand, the same reason to math that no other fields of study can do some help,
In sum, the dependent or independent relationship among those fields of study is advisedly due to the characters of the subjects themselves, it is either hard to say that all the subjects are in one condition or not in one condition, whether it is physics or Archaeology, they both gain significant advances in their own ways. |
