Argument 65  The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.
"For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."

This argument draws a conclusion that the best way to improve profits is that the stores should discontinue stocking many kinds of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheese. To substantiate this claim, the evidence that the five best-selling cheeses at the newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin is cited. The arguer further strengthens the viewpoint by presenting a survey. However, this argument is unconvincing for several critical flaws.
words: 397

At first, this argument commits the fallacy of hasty generalization. The evidence which is cited by the arguer shows that the five best-selling cheeses were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. However, this result comes from the newest store. Apparently, the sample of this survey is not random. It is possible that domestic cheeses are not favorable in other areas, or the newest store is in Wisconsin coincidently and local people like to support Wisconsin’s products. Just focusing on the situation of the newest store will lead to a partial result.

Secondly, the survey by Cheese of the World magazine is untrustworthy. What this survey provides us is that there is an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. However, the author does not show that this magazine is accepted by each kind of people. It is possible that the magazine is mostly subscribed by housewives, which means the sample of the survey is not random. Moreover, the survey does not provide statistical evidence but a vague description. As far as we know, an increasing preference for domestic cheeses does not mean that the number of people who like domestic cheeses is more than people who prefer imported ones. If the arguer can not provide statistical evidence to prove that people like domestic cheeses best, I can not be convinced that limiting imported cheese is a good choice.

What’s more, since the stocking of many kinds of imported cheese would be discontinued, the need of domestic cheeses might increase. Fees in inventing new kinds of domestic cheeses and stocking more ones might not be less than fees in inventing and stocking imported cheese. In this circumstance, profits would not be improved.

In sum, this argument is full of flaws and lack of sufficient evidence. To improve it, the arguer is supposed to demonstrate that people prefer domestic cheeses to imported ones, and to discontinue stocking many kinds of imported cheese can improve profits.

这句话表达不太清楚哦。把magazine改成its questionnaires。

What’s more, since the stocking of many kinds of imported cheese would be discontinued, the need of domestic cheeses might increase. Fees in inventing new kinds of domestic cheeses and stocking more ones might not be less than fees in inventing and stocking imported cheese. In this circumstance, profits would not be improved.
Invent 这个词用的不太合适吧,毕竟argument里面也没有说invent new ones。如果只是增加每种国内奶酪的数量的话。

In sum, this argument is full of flaws and lack of sufficient evidence. To improve it, the arguer is supposed to demonstrate that people prefer domestic cheeses to imported ones, and to discontinue stocking many kinds of imported cheese can improve profits.
写得很规范,但语言有时候有些呆板,像一些段的首句,最好更多的联系文章内容而不是仅仅说At first, this argument commits the fallacy of hasty generalization. Secondly, the survey by Cheese of the World magazine is untrustworthy. In sum, this argument is full of flaws and lack of sufficient evidence. 不然很可能和别的文章或例文雷同哦。
