in this issue, the speaker asserts that we human should not copy others but rather learn to think and act independently, resulting in making the choice that are best for us. I fundamentally agree with the allegation. However, whether people should be independent of others should be analyzed on case-by-case basis as the followings.
First and foremost, in my view, it is just fact that the imitation is preparing for thinking and acting independently to some extent. It is tempting to think that we are born with super ability that benefit to our later lives. Yet in fact we human have to face the fact that we must learn myriad of ability and knowledge by imitating from others since we were born. One personal level, a new born infant starts to speak a single word, move around because of the instinctive imitation. Under this circumstance, the infant gradually forms his or her own opinion about the world, justification, attitude, and so forth. On the social level, the development of social mostly depends on the copying from history. One apt example of this point involves roosevelt’s new deal, advocated by the US government in last century. In retrospect, few would disagree that the plan is full-conceive and of great help to address the worse and worse economic crisis that all most carried undesirable consequence. In light of the experience, the other counties would extends far more beyond mere copy the similar action for dealing with the similar difficulty to address pressing social problem such as shortage of education resource, aids epidemic, rampant violence, most of which go against development of a country. In short, this illustrates that only through imitation can either individual or whole nation make itself perfect and better.
However, that is not to say, it is wise to imitate all from others. History tells us that both individual and nation should all too often hold a vision- a vision that the benefit of others in fact is just what we need. One historic event comes to my mind immediately. In 1950th, the newly established china PRC has a tendency to exert any experience of soviet Russian into the whole country’s economic and public system. However, a large amount of these experiences are not suitable as well as correct for the Chinese nascent stage. Consequently, china in that term was left with financial depression and public chaos. Accordingly, query whether the imitation can serve to the development of individual and country.
Finally, common sense dictates that the necessary independence spurs the advent of newness and miracle. When it comes to the science, notable bill gates is an apt example, had the founder of Microsoft concerned himself with imitation from the operating system dos rather than unprecedented innovation, the popularity of computer be put off plenty of time. Similarly, when it comes to the art, notable ranging from Picasso to Mozart, all of talents are laud for their particular style, which is inherently different from contemporaries. As it turns out, certain impressing newness or success springs from independent of spirit and thought.
To sum up, whether people should think and act independently is up to benefit and individual’s choice. To develop better, we should heighten the awareness of imitation and good respects. To serve to breakthrough, we should also concentrate on emphasis on the independence.
