issue36: The greatness of individual can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
Should the greatness of individual be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries, as the author alleges? The author claim so, for the reason that he or she believe the greatness of individual can be decided only by those who live after them. In a sense, I tend to concede that sometimes the contemporaries do not realize each other clearly. However, in my point of view, greatness of individual can be decided not only by those who live after them, but also by their contemporaries.

First of all, we can not define who is a great man by changeless standard. Due to the level of education is different many contemporaries can not know them and their contributes clearly, who do not acknowledge the greatness of individual. For instance, the great printer--Vincent Willem van Gogh prints many perfect productions such as Starry Night. But his brother always relieves him before his death. People in that age only know he cuts off the lower part of his ear after an argument with Gauguin, and then he presented his ear to a prostitute. Although Van Gogh sold only in the life of a painting, he is the impact of inestimable. Another example is Copernicus who is polish astronomer. He advanced the theory that the earth and other plants revolve around the sun, disrupting the Ptolemaic system of astronomy. Yet, due to avoid the persecution of the ecclesiastic, he brought forward before he dieing. Therefore, we would expect later generations to give an equity judgment.

Nevertheless, not all the great men only are defined by who live after their. To illustrate this point clearly, we can see that many great persons like Newton, Tomas Alva Edison, Beethoven, Bill Gates and etc. For instance, Bill Gates entered Harvard in 1973, and dropped out two years later when he and Allen started the engine of Microsoft. With size comes power, Microsoft dominates the PC market with its operating system, such as MS-DOS and Windows. Now, Microsoft becomes the biggest software company in the world and Bill Gates becomes the richest man in the world. Hence, everyone believe he is a successful man in any generation.

In addition, the opinion from every one is subjective. Sometimes it is ambivalent. In order to see this point clearly, let us see an example. Today some scientists and politician as contemporaries believe exploitation of resources is better for our society. When we use too many resources, the person who live after us will Have not enough resources.

To sum up, these is no fixed standard to judge who can decide the greatness of individual, the persons who live after them or the contemporaries. Due to analysis and reasons mentioned with each other to generate a signal one of them, and we safely arrive at the conclusion that in present we need see the greatness of individual clearly by all persons’ view, even who is their contemporaries.

例子很多,但是中文提纲中提到的该主题的某些深入探讨,在英文部分比较少。个人建议,一个例子前或后有一个针对该观点的deep explanation
只是个人建议,共同加油。祝愉快。
