TOPIC: ISSUE 51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
WORDS: 624          TIME: 2:00:00          DATE: 2008-2-29

I fundamentally agree with the proposition that students' needs and interests ought to be taken into consideration in education. A contrary view would reflect an underestimation of the importance of interests. Nevertheless, I would caution that extending this preposition too far might risk squandering education resources and an over reliance on the judgments of students.

To begin with, one compelling argument in favor of the speaker has to do with considerable role that interests play in students' study. Interest, coming from our curiosity and aspiration of exploring uncharted and unpredictable territory, can inspire enthusiasm and spark motivation for learning. Learning itself is painstaking. If it were not for the strong craving from interest, who would be brave enough to go on the arduous and endless exploration for truth? Just as Einstein's famous saying goes: "Interest in the best teacher." Without interest, why did Beethoven compose his outstanding symphony after he lost hearing? Without interest, why did Darwin spent forty years observing various species to complete evolutionism? Needless to say, interest has astonishingly magic power to one's pursuit of learning. Thus, education should attach great importance to the fostering of students' interests.

Besides, due to individual diversity, the suitable education mode varies from person to person and unified education might not fully tap the talents of them. Since traditional teacher-oriented education regards all students as the same and ignores the difference of students, it tends to bring up just one type of students. Opposite paragon such as Junhui Ding comes immediately to my mind. Entering the snooker world at the age of eight, Junhui Ding received litter schooling. But his gift in snooker, leading to several championships in a variety of world tournaments, soon brought him great fame. If he was sent to school and received unified education as other ordinary children, his talent in snooker could hardly be fully explored, probably neglected or entirely buried, resulting in loss of such a genius. Therefore, only by receiving the education that suits them best, can they gain the greatest development.

However, the call for satisfy individual needs and interests comes with one important caveat. Most students have not yet set up mature world view and thus do not have enough capacity to make judgments and decisions independently in what they desire to learn. So they cannot shoulder responsibility for their choices. Their interests might also be subject to other environmental factors and therefore alter over time. Consequently, too much reliance on students' choices might result in chaos in education and is not a wise measure to take. Moreover, it is unrealistic to take every student’s interests and needs into account for the restriction of education resources. It is almost impossible for limited number of teachers to satisfy students’ various interests, philosophy, physics, literature, endless to count.

In addition, some fundamental curriculums such as math and physics, whether students hold interests in or not, are compulsory for the reason that these courses constitute one’s common sense and basic skill to live in the world. Basic knowledge in these courses is essential qualification for carrying out further study in most other fields. A recent survey done by Ministry of Education of PRC indicates that 38.5 percent of students being inquired dislike learning math and physics. If education completely follows students’ interests, those students who have no willing to learn those basic disciplines may find it difficult or even impossible to study deeply in their own areas. Moreover, Scantiness of research in fundamental disciplines in society will probably bring destructive influences to the development of many other fields.

On balance, I agree with the speaker's assertion insofar as individual’s interests and needs should not be overlooked in education. Yet it will also bring harm if educators overextend this preposition.

I fundamentally agree with the proposition that students' needs and interests ought to be taken into consideration in education. A contrary view would reflect an underestimation of the importance of interests. Nevertheless, I would caution that extending this preposition too far might risk squandering education resources and an over reliance on the judgments of students.

To begin with, one compelling argument in favor of the speaker has to do with considerable role that interests play in students' study.TS中的interest的作用最好给个大意,阅读里的文章ts都是很清楚的。 Interest, coming from our curiosity and aspiration of exploring uncharted and unpredictable territory, can inspire enthusiasm and spark motivation for learning.

However, the call for satisfy 分词? individual needs and interests comes with one important caveat. Most students have not yet set up mature world view and thus do not have enough capacity to make judgments and decisions independently inof(确认一下) what they desire to learn. So they cannot shoulder responsibility for their choices. Their interests might also be subject to other environmental factors and therefore alter over time. Consequently, too much reliance on students' choices might result in chaos in education and is not (not be怎么样)a wise measure to take. Moreover, it is unrealistic to take every student’s interests and needs into account for the restriction of education resources. It is almost impossible for limited number of teachers to satisfy students’ various interests, philosophy, physics, literature, endless to count.最好用it is almost impossible that

In addition, some fundamental curriculums such as math and physics, whether students hold interests in (which?)or not, are compulsory for the reason that these courses constitute one’s common sense and basic skill to live in the world.
