Thegreatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live afterthem, not by their contemporaries.

Whois more suitable to decide the greatness? As the point of my view, Iagree with the author that the people who live after them are morecompetent to merit the value of greatness. It can be supported by thehistories of science, art and politics.   

First, in the scientific history, most of the brilliant contributions are beyond the recognition of peers, so the contemparies can not provide the accurate evaluation. Due to the limit of people's sight,the peers usually failed to understand the most significantdiscoveries. One of the most substantial example is the found ofCopernicus' theory that the earth and other planets revolve aroundthe sun, which is commonly accepted by all the people in the world.In his times, the theory is deemed to be ridiculous and evil, so herevealed it just before his death. And another scientist, Bruno, waseven burned to death due to the embracing to it. But the theory trulybroadened the sight of human and started the revolution in science.It is the people who live after his death restore its merit. Now theunited field theory built by Einstein is not supported by most of thescientists. However, who can make sure that it would not benefitpeople dramatically as the relative theory in future? If that daycame, the merit of Einstein will be enhanced furthermore. Thus, inthe history of science, it is the people living after the greatnessesto provide the most meaningful evaluation for them.      

Second, in the history of arts, some of the greatnesses' works are notadmitted until the acceptance of people living after their death. Artis the way to reveal author's ideas in heart. Once some one's ideasis far way from the society at his time, his ideas in artisticalworks is hardly to be comprehended by the contemporaries. However, itdoes not mean that his works are valueless. So the following peoplecan usually criticize them objectively, since they are not confinedby the prevail ideas at that time. Monet is the distinct example ofthem who is rightly decided after his death. His paintings includingone of the most valuable works today, “impression:sunrise”, wereconsidered to be ridiculous in his living time. Most of people cannot understand their meanings. But now they are all deemed to be thepriceless contributions to human history of arts. So artists are moredecided properly by people who live after their death.        

Third, in field of politics, the final impact of politicians' decision forsociety which is the significant factor to evaluate them can only befound by  people living after their death. Take the first Chinesechairman, Chairman Mao as an example. He mainly left Chinese twothings in his living time, the found of China and the revolution ofculture. The later one is only classified to be fault after hisdeath. Actually, it truly decline the development of Chinadrastically. Through the comparison to development of economy inlater time, it can well known that the revolution made Chineseeconomy stall for more than twenty years. But the people in that timecan not anticipate it, so it is hard for them to evaluate Maoaccurately.

To sum up, it is more proper for the greatnesses to be merited by peopleliving after them in the field of science, arts and politics atleast. They can provide the most significant and accurate evaluationon the greatnesses without any confine in their living times.
