TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
WORDS: 584 TIME: 00:45:00 DATE: 2008-4-6 22:01:26
Today, with high speed of technological development and the improvement of educational condition, the imagination from the statement that education can be designed to satisfy every individual of students includes more possibility than ever before. But we can not go too absolutely to state as which has been presented by the statement that our education, which can not meet the individual needs and interests of each student now, is completely ineffective. Something should be thought about deeply to avoid the absolute statement.
Because the specific condition of each students in any level of our education is different from others, there is not one design which is proper to all the students in one school, one grade or one classroom. Thus, teaching or making educational designs for every students respectively is an completely impossible problem now. But teachers and professor should do as much as they can to satisfy more students respectively. This dilemma in which generality versuses individuality of education will be a problem for educators to discuss for ever. We can talk this issue in those developed countries and in those developing countries respectively.
In developed countries, for example, the United States, more teachers and professors exist in many schools, colleges and univerisities in each level of the education system in present and the educational facilitates are also enough. In elementary school, middle school and high school, tens of students sit in a classroom, listening to one teacher professing a subject. The ratio of students to teachers is so high that In each of the class, a teacher can not teach students respectively. But students can ask their teachers question after class or teachers can tutor extremely good or bad performing students one by one after class. In these three levels of education, the knowledge of the students is so limited and the students' characteristics have not been formed completely that teaching individually is not a very urgent issue for students to expect. Thus, because all the reasons above, to the students in these three levels of education system, the statement obviously fails because general education is enough to them. But, in colleges and universities, because the students there do not share a common major and common interest, professors must do as possible as they can to satisfy all the students. There is still much to be done to reach this aim. But we still can not say that students in this level is being received a completely ineffective education. Students can take classes in general and satisfy their needs and interests by their own. Teachers can students should be in function together to meet the needs of all the students.
In developing countries, where the condition is much worse, schools, teachers and professors are much more insufficiently provided. Government should make big effort to develop the economy of those countries and spend more on education to meet this deficit. In these countries, teaching respectively is far more impossible. If a child can receive education or not is not clear, let alone talking about individual education there. But we can not say that the educational there is completely ineffective even in the poor conditions there. Students have more knowledge lust and teachers owns more responsible feeling. We can see that without teaching respectively, the poor students there can still gain much through there schools.
The statement show us the final aim of education. But it is impossible for us to make it become true today. But our education now is not completely ineffective.
