[重要] Be cautious with "taoci"

I just received this email warning me not to contact the faculty directly and I would like to share here to remind that we shall be careful with our "taoci":

Dear Applicant,

Greetings from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Lehigh and
thank you very much for your application to our graduate program.

I am  pleased to inform you that your application is complete and ready
for review by the Graduate Admissions Committee.  I expect the
Committee
will begin reviewing applications soon.

I ask you, however:

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT INDIVIDUAL PROFESSORS REGARDING OPPORTUNITIES TO
STUDY UNDER THEM.

Our faculty are not involved in the admissions process, and contacting
them may only hurt your chances for receiving an offer of admission, as
I eventually receive and respond to all such inquiries.

Again, thank you for you application and please feel free to contact me
-- and, preferably, only me --  with any questions you may have
regarding Chemical Engineering at Lehigh.

It seems different schools and different majors have different requirements. For some majors, you will be assigned an instructor only after you've got in the school and studied for about one year. These schools don't encourage you to taoci with professors. The admission assistant regards your taoci as a harassment to the professors and this will certainly make them feel displeased.
