The speaker recognizes that it is an illusion that “people who lived in different times are significantly different” while study of the history. I could only agree the speaker with that people’s nature have not changed until now. The reasons I will give out as following.

I agree with the statement insofar as through the earnest study of human history we learn that basic human nature-- our motives and our foible-- has not changed over recorded times. So we can deal with our society problems more efficient through study from the history. For example, history teaches us that we can make laws—no matter the king in the past or the president now– to regulate our society more efficient; history also tell us strong Country always beat the weak Country, so few Countries do not invest a large of taxpayer dollars into their national defense.

But the speaker acclaim that people in one period of time are largely different from people who lived at any other time in history is an illusion irresponsibly begs the reality. As China for example, during or even before the dynasty of Qing, people do not communicate with other Countries, because we are strong for reasons that we have a lot of people and others are likely to communicate with us actively, however, after the Industrial Revolution, most of the countries in the West developed quickly and learn to each others without China. So in the following 100 years, people in China have been aggressed all times. Until we reforming and opening up to the world, we participate in OPEC voluntary, we strength the cooperation with the international effects, because of the activities above, China growing fast in the economic and military affairs now which must contribute to the research of our history.

Another problem with the statement is that the speaker ignores benefit of the research in the literature and art fields from the history. Because of the research of history, our society becomes more and more human for reasons that we deal with the problems of word and art or other aspects. In the literature, we experience the change of the word from the oracle-bone inscription to the word we now using which is a long period, and at the end we got the most simple and applied word that we now used; in the art, we continual produce new patterns and study outside so there are full art patterns in our Country, however, without history, may be we are still use the oracle-bone inscription and singing and dancing around the fire.

In addition, study from the history could also help us to success more easily. For example, we can read the great person how to deal with the problems; we can also know what characters great people have and understand how to cultivate the kids or ourselves.

In sum, the speaker could be support only because he recognize that the basic human nature is same no matter people lived in now or in the history, but there are a lot of profits need to discover, what I have mentioned above are just like a corn in the sea.
