The statement concludes that landfill would last for considerably longer than predicted that several reasons are thrown out by the mayor. However, in my opinion many of these reasons can be challenged and the conclusion is also open to doubt.

Regarding the fist finding the mayor cites that, the amount of aluminum and paper recycling is twice of the one of previous time and which contribute much to the landfill space saving. In my opinion, however, we cannot find the necessary connection between this reason and result. No evidence indicated that only two kinds of material lead to recycling made the main improve of all recycling work. There may be other compelling factors the speaker neglected which effected to reduce the spaces of garbage preserve. For example, if the quantities of the plastic bags using increased sharply at the same time of aluminum and paper recycling increase, total amount of garbage landfill space may be used up more quickly.

The doubled charges for garbage pickup do not mean the recycling of the material operated completely. For one hand, the recycling work is made up of several activities that waste collection only plays one part of the whole process. By the example of alumnus which can be picked up as drink cans, must be meltaway, disinfected and manufactured to new products. So only strengthen the garbage pickup behavior is probably not enough to improve recycling. On the other hand, the increase money spending on garbage pickup may not lead to the quality of service improved. If there is no efficient supervise system of the garbage pickup quality enhancing cannot be estimated.

Thirdly, the survey, the mayor mentioned is also difficult to be trusted for us. I have to question about the details of the report. What is the subject of it? When and where does it take? Who is the investigator and who is the interviewee? Because of all of these elements have not been definite, we cannot believe that the result of the report are property.

In sum, to persuade us to believe that many more years would last of landfill of West Egg, the speaker’s must give us more believable reasons which indicate that recycling work of all kinds of relevant material is increasing. In addition, the given reasons should be more valid. I would rather like to get more detail information about recycling work process and the survey the mayor mentioned.
