The author asserts that because today is new and more complex than the past, we learn little from the understanding of pas. However, I disagree with the author that though we are experienced a new period that is entirely different from the past, we still learn lots of history lessons from the past to improve ourselves and avoid mistakes done in the history.

Admittedly，as the appearance of internet, mobile phone and planes, people are living in a new and totally complex society. At the primitive stage of human history, people only could walk to where they wanted to go and they need to speak with each other in limited distance. Never could our ancestors image how people could talk each other without seeing each other or travel around the globe within 3 days. All these inventions and new technologies that are so complex exceed what people in the past could image.

However, although we live in a different life from people in the past, that does not mean that we could not learn from understanding of the past. For the one hand, without the effort made by people in the past, we could never get so many achievements in today’s life. As Newton had said that If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants. Learning from what people in the past had found helps us to explore the unknown and be nearer to the truth of every problem. In this sense, history boosts people to improve, to discover and to achieve more.

On the other hand, history tells us lots of blood stories to warn us that we should not make mistakes again, which people in the history had made before. Mistakes in history are the most valuable lessons that were got by blood and tears. In economy, government knows the characteristic of economic crisis from the world’s economic crisis in 1930, which resulted in millions of people losing jobs and hundred people starving to death, to make adjustment adjourning the appearance of economic crisis or even preventing the tragedy happened again. Mistakes in history warned people to avoid repeating these mistakes, or even we could not prevent all the mistakes, but when we are confronted with the crisis or wars, we would be confident that we could do better than the past because history is the best teacher, who guides us to walk through the dark period. Therefore, we should thank for what the mistakes in the history teach us and assure the value of history.

In sum, we are living in a modern time, which is new and complex and totally different from the past; however, history is still the best teacher of human beings. Because history helps us to explore further and history teaches us to avoid mistakes. We should never negate the value of history and we should not forget the history; otherwise, society will immediately stop developing and human beings will soon be devastated.
