Issue 147
Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them.

Whether we must choose between tradition and modernization is a problem people face these days. I agree that in certain cases the two are mutually exclusive. For the most part, however, modernization is compatible with tradition. Traditions, in fact, often inspire modern people, thereby making our life be more beautiful and comfortable.

Architecture is one of the realms that arouse serious conflict between tradition and modernization. Basically, there are two major reasons contributing to conflicts. First, the difference in life style: as aesthetic manner is steadily evolving. The impact of foreign culture and industry revolution ignite aesthetic change. For example, in China, modern housings are higher, simpler and more convenient, while tradition ones are relatively baroque, commodious and embellish with many structural decorations such as statue on a building’s roof. Furthermore, the rapidly developing of a city aggravates the conflict. Because of the limit of valuable land, government should do city reclamation in order to sustain the development of a city. Beyond controversy, almost all old buildings should face devastation; however architectures possessed significant values in historical, aesthetic and scientific are preserved by renovation and relocation. Typical examples are Forbidden City and Terracotta Warriors which were renovated into historical museums and become intriguing tourism spots. In short, either altering the purpose of a building or relocation, conventional building sometimes can remain in contemporary society.

In terms of clothing fashion and art, we can easily find the coexistence of tradition and modernization. Some traditions are unique and remain in our contemporary society. Chinese calligraphy and monochromatic painting are the traditional writing and drawing techniques in ancient China, and they are different to nowadays writing and painting. People use computer or colorful ink for drawing, by contrast, calligraphy and monochromatic painting use brush and black ink. The popularization of ball pen and computer for writing and drawing; nevertheless Chinese calligraphy and monochromatic painting are widespread at society including poster and advertising media. In the area of fashion, a compelling example is blue jean which appeared in nineteenth century, and initially it was worn by mining workers in the US. The rapidly developing of US economics does not knock off these sturdy trousers. Blue jean has evolved into a general fashion and now we can find it nearly all over the world.

Finally, seeking a synthesis of what is both unique and universal designer often looks back to tradition for inspiration, and finally mingles traditional element in modern design. The charm of many artifacts including antiqued architectures, sculptures and drawings in fact does not fade out along the time. And more important, they act as catalysts which enlighten modern designers tying their designs with traditional element. Consider two impressively contemporary buildings which distinctly illustrate the magic sparking through apposite combination of conventional and modernization ideas. Louvre Pyramid, in Paris, is a glass pyramid which combines the most general use construction materials and an idea derived from Egyptian Pyramid. The Bank of China Tower, in Hong Kong, is constructed in a shape that resembles the stalks of bamboo pushing skyward. Apart from its bamboo-like aspect, more important it connotes the meaning of bamboo forest allegory as bamboo is a sign for honored man, who behaves humbly, straight and well appreciated by people, in traditional Chinese culture. These examples are only the tip of iceberg; and you may find more which decorated with ancient characteristics such as living tool and telephone booth in your daily life.

In sum, tradition and modernization present a certain level of conflict. In most occasions, the traditional and the contemporary are not polar opposites, but exhibit together in various realms such as clothing fashions, arts, and architectures. The coexistence and mutual embracement of tradition and modernization may make the city becoming more charming and cultural city.

Whether we must choose between tradition and modernization is a problem people face these days. (that people are facing;these days 也不好)I agree that in certain cases the two are mutually exclusive. For the most part, however, modernization is compatible with tradition. Traditions, in fact, often inspire modern people, thereby making our life be(去掉) more beautiful and comfortable.(首段结构不错,介绍背景句考虑重写)

Architecture is one of the realms that arouse serious conflict(s) between tradition and modernization. Basically, there are two major reasons contributing to conflicts(改成this). First, the difference in life style: as aesthetic manner is steadily evolving.(没谓语不成句子) The impact of foreign culture and industry(industrial) revolution ignite aesthetic change(s). For example, in China, modern housings(buildings) are higher, simpler and more convenient(不搭配), while tradition ones are relatively baroque, commodious and embellish with many structural decorations such as statue(s) on a building’s roof. Furthermore, the rapidly developing(rapid development) of a city aggravates the conflict. Because of the limit of(limited or limitation of) valuable land, government should do city reclamation(sprawl) in order to sustain the development of a city(再想个原因吧,有点语意重复). Beyond controversy, almost all old buildings should face devastation; however architectures possessed(possessing或of) significant values in historical, aesthetic and scientific(形容词提到values前) are(should be?) preserved by renovation and relocation.(整句有点语意不清) Typical examples are Forbidden City and Terracotta Warriors which were renovated(用词不当) into historical museums and become intriguing tourism spots. In short, either (by)altering the purpose(function) of a building or relocation(relocating), conventional building sometimes can remain(to exist?) in contemporary society.

In terms of clothing fashion and art, we can easily find the coexistence of tradition and modernization. Some traditions are unique and remain in our contemporary society. Chinese calligraphy and monochromatic painting are the traditional writing and drawing techniques in ancient China, and they are different to(from) nowadays(adv.) writing and painting. People use computer or colorful ink for drawing, by contrast, calligraphy and monochromatic painting use brush and black ink. The popularization of ball pen and computer for writing and drawing(没谓语); nevertheless Chinese calligraphy and monochromatic painting are widespread at society including poster and advertising media. The rapidly developing of US economics does not knock off these sturdy trousers. Blue jean has evolved into a general fashion and now we can find it nearly all over the world.

Finally, seeking(in order to seek) a synthesis of what is both(重复留一个) unique and universal designer often looks back to tradition for inspiration, and finally mingles traditional element in modern design. The charm of many artifacts including antiqued architectures, sculptures and drawings in fact does not fade out along the time. And more important, they act as catalysts which enlighten modern designers tying their designs with traditional element. The coexistence and mutual embracement of tradition and modernization may make the city becoming more charming and cultural city.

后面没大细看,感觉语法上小错很多,包括单复数\用词不当\句子结构问题,影响了意思的表达;内容上有例子,但分析不够深入系统.楼主加油!
