2008-2009 PG Student Recruiting Message from CSE@HKUST (香港科技大学计算机科学及工程学系2008-2009学年研究生招生通知)

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Hong Kong UST is recruiting PhD students to start in Fall 2009. We are looking for outstanding undergraduate students as well as outstanding graduate students with Masters degree who have some experience in research. We are looking for students in all areas in computer science, including but not limited to artificial intelligence, computer vision and graphics, computer networks, databases, embedded systems, software engineering and systems, the design & analysis of algorithms, computational geometry and theory. Our department consists of outstanding faculty members and graduate students. The body of PhD students is over 100. After getting their PhDs, our students have found jobs in major research labs such as Microsoft Research, Google, IBM and top universities in Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. A student who has a masters degree is expected to graduate with a PhD in 3 years, and an undergraduate degree to graduate in 4 years.
Our English requirement is one of recent TOEFL(cbt)>=580, IELTS>=7, or TOEFL(ibt)>=92 by the time you enter HKUST. Our postgraduate scholarship is HK$13,000 per month. Tuition fee at HKUST is around HK$42,100 per year.
We are recruiting in two phases. In phase 1, which is held in September 2008, an early recruiting session is targeted for PhD applicants through on-site interviews. To qualify, please send in a CV to pgadmin@cse.ust.hk AND fill out the preliminary application form at http://www.cse.ust.hk/pg/admissions/registration/ for preliminary screening. Please do so as early as you can, but no later than 23:59 September 19, 2008 (Friday)
We are also continuing to accept regular application packages. Your formal application can be submitted to HKUST Postgraduate Admissions at any time before March 15, 2009.
We also accept a limited number of applications to self-financed MPhil program. If you are interested in this program, please indicate so clearly on your application form.
Our final application deadline is March 15, 2009
