Agree or disagree that: University should let students learn at least one course of culture of a country rather than their own (2007.10.17)


Culture represents the civilization of a country. Each country has its own culture which characterizes its unique quality different from others. It is necessary for universities to provide courses of culture of different countries because students or even the whole country do benefit from these courses as discussed below.

Learning a culture of a foreign country give us a better understanding of the real meaning of the concept culture. A person who knows only the culture of his/her own may take it for granted that people all over the world would share the same attitudes and have a similar response to certain problems. They would not realize the culture’s function on people’s attitude. He/she may have troubles on understanding certain activities of the foreigner such as religious activities. In contrast, a person who understands culture of more counties rather than his/her own may judge a person’s activity based on different cultures. This is an important part of the culture that it will have a severe impact on people’s behavior and attitude.

Learning a culture of a foreign country enable us to gain some precious qualities. Take the Japanese culture for example.  
One popular phenomenon is that working people in Japan take the job so seriously that they may even set their home in the company in order to facilitate work. After some time, they consider the company to be their home. It reveals a sign of loyalty for the company. In contrast, in our country, people are always looking for opportunities to jump to other companies without considering the trouble he/she has brought. If more people take the same action, it may even result in the company’s bankrupt. By learning from the cultural of other countries we can absorb good quality such as loylty to the cultural of our own.

In all, I hold my opinion that people will benefit from the learning of foreign culture by knowing how to judge a person’s behavior. What is more important is that the good qualities of the other cultures will attibute to the prospurous of the culture of our own.

One phenomenon is that working people in Japan take the job so seriously that they may even set their home in the company in order to facility（facilitate） work. That means they consider the company to be（to be 改为 as） their home. This is a sign of loyalty for（to） the company. In contrast, in our country, people always looking for opportunities to jump to other companies without considering the trouble brought（笔误） he/she brought IN (bring sth IN，带来 或者改为bring by …). This may result in the company’s bankrupt. By learning the cultural（culture is a NOUN and cultural is an ADJ） of other countries we can add good qualities to the cultural of our own.

In all, I hold my opinion that people will benefit from the learning of foreign culture by knowing how to what（去掉what） judge a person’s behavior. What is more important is that （直接用more importantly）the whole country could get benefit by learning from the good qualities of the other cultures.

其实很多比较好的用词都能想出来，只是没有足够的时间，一限时就紧张，词语就不能信手拈来，感觉是不是练得少的原因。
