The impact of new technology has had on our life, of course including the television system, increased beyond our imagination. Already, some people choose to learn from watching television, with the help of an advanced, well rounded and splendid system. No doubt, the number of these people would become even greater as the relevant technologies become more and more sophisticated and comprehensive. Along with this phenomenon arises a hot debate over whether people can learn more watching television than reading books. Divergent people have divergent opinion due to their distinct experiences and backgrounds. As far as I am concerned, book; boast its comprehensive and selective knowledge system and entertaining function, make the readers learn more.
First and foremost, book can provide us with a comprehensive and selective knowledge system. Whatever and whenever you want, just walk to the library, the priceless knowledge would be readily available by just flicking some related books. On the other hand, in order to meet the need of the mass, the television programs can only convey you the information that most people already get interest in. Moreover, you can select whatever you want to learn by reading books, while you just can passively accept the information in the television. For example, hardly can we get even just a piece of information about Chinese tea culture in Japan, who had a hot debate with China over where is the birthplace of tea, yet a simple book can bring you this wherever you are, since you can choose its content.
Subsequently, its positive effect on efficiency can never be underestimated. From dawn to dusk; everyone has to go through a rigorous schedule. Even children are not exempt from this rush. Everyday there are deadline to meet, reports to write, bill to pay, meeting to attend, papers to submit, etc. Life is a never-ending race to most people. While reading books, by bring relaxation and releasing the pressure, provides us a peace heaven far away from this noisy and fast-paced world. Undoubtedly, this peace and relaxation would increase our efficiency in work or study. My personal example can shed some light on this point. While I was conquering the boring vocabulary of GRE, instead of pouring all of my attention on memorizing the words, I was used to spend a morning in reading books which would not only released my pressure, increased my efficiency but also provided me enough materials to write the essay part in the test.
Admittedly, thanks to its colorful and eligible form and advanced television techniques, the audiences of the television program can understand it faster and easier. However, when remove the surface and look deeper, we can found this point alone is insufficient to conclude that people can learn more from television, because never will we obtain enough amount of knowledge just from some superficial programs.
In a nutshell, from what I stated above we can easily come to the conclusion that books, by providing a comprehensive and selective knowledge system, bring the readers more.
