The speaker asserts that how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society and that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society. In my opinion, the former part of the assertion is an over-statement, which exaggerates the function of socialization of children. And the latter part of the assertion that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can create a better society is poorly supported by empirical evidence.

First, I admit that how children are socialized today influences the destiny of society to some extent. I can't imagine that how they make contributions to their society, if they are not socialized well in their childhood. Take the "lost generation" for example. They were exposed to the aspect of mankind--cruelty, greed, ruthlessness, and fanatics. This generation was obviously ruined by the war, and shrink back to their shells when talking about future. Yesterday’s happiness will be just illusions and tomorrow may be ruins, so they refused to work and were lost in the fog of skeptics and terror, when they finally become adults, they hardly contributed to society.

However, socialization is just one of factors influencing the extent to which an individual will ultimately contribute to a better society. And it is not the most important one. How much knowledge children have learned also influence on the destiny of society. As Francis Bacon put it, "knowledge is power!" In the new era, information and technology determines the destiny of a nation, a society. Consequently, knowledge also plays a key role in the development of social future. What's more, there are a lot of other factors, such as family atmosphere, education system, together with socialization and knowledge determines the destiny of society.

In addition, considering the latter claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children, we find the fact can't comply with this issue that we have a set of systemic methods to educate, socialize our children, though we dare not to say we can make every child be well educated. For example, a lot of parents send their children to the best school, and then instruct them to read many useful books. Furthermore, they may suggest their children to take a part time job in order to learn to be independent of their mother and father. Most out-standing persons were raised in this way in my generation.

小小的提一下，knowledge is power这句话最初意义其实是有点讽刺意味的，power意为权利而非力量。使用此例证还需斟酌一下。
