It is as if a tennis player before returning the ball stopped to think about his views of the physical and mental advantages of tennis. You must act as you breathe.9 Q& r; f2 V' p e, i8 d. W& ^

Is it true that acting quickly and instinctively is the best response to a crisis? Or are there times when an urgent situation requires a more careful consideration and a slower response? Plan your response...+ L9 m; b5 Z0 m; u, e: l* U0 z9 ~) A

In dire situations, our actions are influenced by adrenaline and innate character. Although there is no best way out of the crisis, our character and judgement can layout a better path for us to take. In view of history characters and learning lessens from fallen heroes, I strongly agree with the notion that careful consideration and slower response is necessary for people in urgent situation.

2 e% {) H m; I! cIn studying ancient Greek culture, we come across Oedipus the King, Oedipus is King of Thebes and has risen to become a great hero after defeating the Sphinx. However, Oedipus’ hubris propelled him to act instantly to many situations. In the play, we see Oedipus in constant motion, judging people and the circumstances too quickly. He acts at his instincts with overwhelming pride, never stopping to think soon, Oedipus becomes the tragic hero, falling from great heights to complete doom, blinding himself after he discovered the truth of his birth. His downfall is undoubtedly caused by his swift instinctive actions and hubris. Thus we learn a lesson from the play, as Oedipus is such a great example that proves acting instinctively is indeed disastrous.

5 {% H' @9 P5 x/ zAlthough in certain life or death circumstances, we may never need to think, I will like to emphasize that most emergencies still require careful judgement. When it is now or never, we must act without doubt, but such encounters do not require much brainpower or decision making. For example, we see a person drowning in a lake, such encounters requires good physique and instincts. However, it is still a golden rule that we should stop and think in most situations, or we will probably end up being Oedipus or Macbeth.

We have an endless list of tragic heroes, or normal characters in our literature; Macbeth, Oedipus, Romeo and Juliet and a lot more. We have a lot to learn from such lessons and I would like to say, stopping to think is surely a wise man’s decision.
