Agree or disagree with the following statement: it is more important to award students for effort (trying or hard working) than for achievement (good grades)(2006 年6 月24 日)

The progress is more significant and attractive than the result. Just as being on a train, most time, people cannot forget what they saw outside the windows, the quiet countryside, the mountain and the stocks who were gazing on the grass. Therefore, I prefer to reward students for efforts instead of for achievement.
In the first place, students can receive encouragement from the award for effort even if did not get good grades. When some one who has learning disabilities in one specific, he/she needs more effort and help to achieve in such field. Probably he/she may not reach as perfect as others even still low in complement, but award and apprise should be provided for the endeavors they adopted. For the reason is teachers should focus on how many efforts and how those students take to finish one task. If the achievement is the only to be judged, more and more students would be disappointed, and some of others may prefer illegal methods, such as hire some one to take test or ask an adult to complete a hard-working job. Apprise only for the achievement will lead to disaffected attitude in young people’s heart.
In the second place, when people received achievement in one task, generally what they remembered is the progress of how did they complete it. For several times after Beijing Olympics, people could watch from TV programs that introduced how many endeavors the athletes take in Olympics. An American swimming athlete who is a cancer patient did not quit joining in Olympics even if failed in preliminary contest but his spirit is already kept in people’s hearts. The teachers and society should apprise the hard-working and efforts in order to make students and young people received encouragement. The progress of never quit should be the main view in people’s minds.
In conclusion, it is more important for the teachers to award students who took more efforts even if they may not have achievement. Encouragement and proper aspect to complete a work would be given through award for efforts. The students will learn how to finish it with active attitudes.

个人觉得中间两段要调整下。比如第2段,TS是个事实,这样很难展开,不如把最后一句Appraise only for the achievement will lead to disaffected attitude in young people’s heart作为TS,感觉比较容易展开。
