简单情节介绍：

罗斯、乔伊和钱德一起坐在盖瑞的警车上去巡逻；汽车排气管异常爆响，大家以为遭枪击。乔伊迅速跳车并护住罗斯。钱德埋怨乔伊胳膊肘往外拐……其实乔伊是在保护三明治。瑞秋到罗斯家拿材料调鸡尾酒，听到翌日就要再婚的艾米丽的电话留言——“我们的分手是否是个错误？”莫妮卡和瑞秋因为该不该通知罗斯而争吵，瑞秋意外将留言删除了。她留下来等待罗斯返家，并打算亲口转告他。

Cross-referenced 交叉相关？ 这个词可能不好理解，关键是reference。这个词是相关，参考，一种关联的意思。这里就是说，有一种交叉的关联，不是单一的关联。老美会用这种两个词直接加－的方式表达一种复合的意思，可以留意一下；

Prototype 原型。啥叫原型？就是最初的形态，类似demo。不论做什么，先做一个样子给大家看看的，这个就叫prototype了。

Ross: (to Gary) That was so cool man, the way you leaned on that guy.

Lean 倾斜，倾靠。这里是一个引申意思“施加压力”。我查字典有这样一个例句：The boss is leaning on us to meet the deadline.老板要求我们在截止限期前完成。这这句是一样的意思。

Twisted 纠缠的，扭曲的。mon这里说emily在和ross剪不断的关系～～
老友里面有一次玩过一个游戏，叫twister，就是一群人挤在一个有颜色的纸上然后脚踩某些颜色手扶另外一些颜色的，最后就会变得纠缠在一起。有兴趣的大家可以看104那集，里面就有。:)

Chandler: Okay, y'know, we-we're safe right? I mean nothing bad can go down!
Gary: No. But that reminds me, (handing back a clipboard) sign this.
Ross: What is it?

先说一个，chandler问了之后gary说的no，是表示没有危险的意思。注意这个地方。如果只问we are safe right?那回答no是说我们不safe，但是后面chandler又加了一句nothing bad can go down，gary这里的no相当于认同chandler的意思，也就是说nothing would happen。所以他也才会紧接说but转折一下，让他们签那个东西。

Sue 控告，诉讼。“我要去告你！”= “ I will sue you!” 及物动词。

Rachel: No, Monica! Monica! We have to fix this!
Monica: There's nothing we can do. You erased the message!
Rachel: Yeah well unless we tell him.
Monica: Well, if you're gonna be totally rational about this, I can't argue with you! All right? Fine, if you wanna tell him, tell him. I just don't want to be a part of it.

Rational 理性的，理智的，推理的。这里rachel怎么就理性了呢？她听到这个message然后一定要转告ross，就像机器一样，所以mon认为是很理性而且不通融 的。因为信着mon的态度，应该就直接不管才对。

Ross: Wow! I could've died tonight.
Chandler: Yeah! If the car that backfired had run over you! Y'know what, I think I'll go home before Ross starts rambling about his newfound respect for life. (He gets up and starts for the door.)
Ross: I do have a newfound respect for life.
Chandler: (returning) Oh my God! (Storms out.)

Ramble 漫游，这里是说ross开始胡思乱想故意扩大了。

Respect of life，生命的意义。

Joey: I know it doesn't make much sense…
Chandler: Much sense?!
Joey: Look Chandler, it was instinct! Okay? I just went for it!
Chandler: So you risked your life, for a sandwich!

Instinct 直觉，下意识的反应，本能；

Ross: You weren't there! Okay, maybe this is something that I-I'm supposed to seize! Y'know?
Rachel: Okay, y'know what? Maybe, this is not about seizing stuff. Maybe this is about escaping stuff.
Ross: Huh.
Rachel: I mean, look-look today you escaped (Pause) (Not believing it) death, y'know? And maybe this is a chance for you to escape getting back together with Emily?

Seize and escape，抓住和逃出。一对反义词吧算是。从这段话我们这样理解，seize有获得得到的意思，而escape是放弃失去的意思。

简单情节如下：
今晚对罗斯意义非凡，他要带朋友们出席一个重要的宴会。但大家都慢吞吞老是没准备好。乔伊和钱德为坐椅和着装而斗气。两人玩闹时不慎弄脏了菲比的衣服。莫妮卡听到答录机里里查德的一条旧留言，她妄想这是新的消息。莫妮卡给里查德留了个消息，之后又想登录里查德的答录机抹掉它，结果出尽洋相。瑞秋决定不了该穿哪件衣服。罗斯发火了，瑞秋干脆说不去了……作为道歉，罗斯答应瑞秋喝一杯油。

CHANDLER: The big deal is I was sitting there last, so, that's my seat.
JOEY: Well, actually the last place you were sitting was in there (points to the bathroom). Soo...
ROSS: You guys, you know what, you know what, it doesn't matter, because you both have to go get dressed before the big vain in my head pops. So..
CHANDLER: All right, Ross, I just have to do one thing, really quickly, it's not a big deal. (yells at Joey) GET UP!!

Vain 空洞，无意义，这里我觉得是指开始犯傻，发火。Vain多数时候可以理解为meaningless，如果无意义的做什么事，有可能就是在发傻，或是无意义的发火了。实在不好理解的话，能记住meaningless的意思就好了。日常还有习惯用语in vain表示“徒劳，无收益”或是“抱以轻慢不敬的态度”，也许ross这里就是这个表示态度的意思。

ROSS: Okay, look, we have nineteen minutes. Okay, Chandler, I want you to go and change! Okay. And then, when you come back, Joey will go change, and he'll have vacated the chair. Okay. Okay.

Vacate 腾出，空出，引申有离职，让位的意思。

Negate 否定，相反；negative应该大家都很熟悉了，这里是它的动词形式；

Essence 精华，本质，要素，特性……总之就是most important，最能代表事物特点的部分。

ROSS: Okay, then why do you have to wear underwear tonight?
JOEY: It's a rented tux. Okay. I'm not gonna go commando in another man's fatigues.

Go commando是个习惯用法，表示像特种兵一样穿衣——不穿内衣只穿外面衣服；

Fatigue 疲劳，疲乏，也指服劳役，于是进而引申为劳动服，joey这里是用的劳动服这个意思；

ROSS: Your not going.
RACHEL: Right.
ROSS: Okay. You know that I-I have to go.

Ross: Wow. I’m sorry, when I was a kid I lost a bike to that. (Rachel giggles at that)
