"Most societies do not take their greatest thinkers seriously, even when they claim to admire them."很多社会并不重视思想家，即使社会宣称很景仰这些思想家。

【提纲】
1 首先肯定思想家的重要性，列举几个著名的思想家
2 剖析一下思想家值得尊敬的原因，比如目光长远，对社会的认识透彻等等
3 而且社会是尊敬而且重视思想家的，比如纪念许多伟人的活动还有敬重他们的著作
4 但是当今社会不能完全依靠思想家，所以社会并不能讲所有的资源投放于思想家，而是以实践为基础，以思想家的理论作为一种有力的工具

【正文】
The speaker asserts that most societies do not take their greatest thinkers seriously, even when they claims to admire them. At the first glance, the opinion seems to be somewhat plausible. However, after a further consideration, I cannot agree with this opinion with many strong instances.First of all, the greatest thinkers play a significant role in the society. There are many greatest thinkers who are familiar for a large number of people. For instance, Aristotle, one of the greatest thinkers in the world’s history, is a Greek philosopher, who is a pupil of Plato, the tutor of Alexander, the Great, and the author of works on logic, metaphysics, ethics, natural sciences, politics, and poetics, and he profoundly influenced the Western thought. In his philosophical system theory follows empirical observation and logic, based on the syllogism, is the essential method of rational inquiry. Besides Aristotle, there are a lot of thinkers who have a positive influence to others or the societies, such as Plato, Alexander, Marx and Engels.

Why these thinkers are admired by the societies? The reason is that these people dedicate themselves to the studies which are beneficial for many people in their lives. To be more specific, these greatest thinker give human not only the classic theories in many fields of study---nature science, arts, archeology, medical science and etc, but also help people to realize the more precious stuff inside us--those virtues and good characters. On theone hand, in this age when information technology is developing at breakneck speed, the economy is going global and research in life sciences has also taken off, the thoughts of Confucius and Mencius still have a position in society. Because with their ideas, we can find much useful information to address many problems in nowadays, and their ideas do not be out of date. On the other hand, the greatest thinkers take good examples for the great men in this age, especially their good moral characters.

Due to the importance of the greatest thinkers, the societies should take their greatest thinkers seriously and admire them. In fact, the most obvious and reasonable evidence is that these thinker is of great veneration in many societies and people show esteem towards them when they are talked about. People and the governments respect the greatest thinkers in many different ways. For example, in China, the residents in distinct areas hold major ceremonies to commemorate the birthday of Confucius once a year. Moreover, Aristotle is not only remembered by a large number of people, and his deeds and words also have been written in textbooks for education.

However, I concede that the greatest thinkers and their thoughts cannot resolve all difficulties in this science and technology develop-well age. Therefore, the authorities cannot allocate much money to memorialize them, such as raising a monument or a memorial. They should provide money to those people who are in need immediately. Although the governments cannot provide enough money in memory of the greatest thinkers, the people show their respect to the greatest thinkers.In sum, for one thing, it is evident that immediate problems of today are usually urgent and need government's special attention; for another, the greatest thinkers are even crucial who are respected and admired by most societies. A balance between the two kinds of problems is needed for government officials to make the right decisions and take proper activities to show respect to the greatest thinkers.
