Issue51. "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

提纲:
1.
提出教育的目标,否定千篇一律的教育体系。
2.
从不关注个人需求的弊端(举例:学习困难和多动症儿童),引出为什么要关注个人需求?举例。
3.
不否认当今教育关注到个体需求的一部分,但由于其关注的量和面太少,无法使教育真正达到其目的,无法称之为“有效”。
4.
虽然由于种种条件的制约(社会,经济,人们的观念水平和素质程度),这种教育理念现在无法实现,但这种理想教育的观念是正确的,理想的,教育者应该沿着这个方向努力下去。


The purpose of education is to let students acquire basic knowledge, put the knowledge into practice and create on the basis of one person’s self-exploration, self-accomplishment and an integration of a healthy personality. Only when the educators are on the right track heading the education purpose can education be truly effective. In the education system nowadays educators are trying to establish, students tend to be exposed to a standardized criteria, since students with too various features will be difficult for educators and organization to teach, evaluate and manage. I don’t agree on this system and think only education meeting every students’ needs can be called effective.

Education, with a unique and standardized criteria in learning environment, curriculum goal and evaluation system pays little attention to students’ individual discrepancies and thus makes students’ study inefficient. For example, it is commonly seen that students with learning disability (LD) or attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorders (AD/HD) are considered poorly academic performed because teacher neglect their individual feature and needs. But according to the Individual with Disabilities Education Act, such students can get an Individual Education Project (IEP) and appropriate education due to their needs. But if teachers consider the these students simply as bad students, ignore their individual needs and keep teaching in the a standardized criteria, these students may never get improvement since they don’t receive a proper education concerning their individual needs. Apparently, we should get them education that suites them in teaching methods, curriculum goal, examination and, plus, an appropriate plan to help them overcome the disabilities.

Some people might claim that they haven’t seen many bad sides in teaching students in today’s education system. Yes, admittedly today’s education do meet the individual needs but only in very few aspects, such as tuition free from primary school education to junior high school, hobby groups and communities in high schools and second major courses in colleges. These efforts are too small-ranging on students accomplishing the education purpose, thus lacks effectiveness.

When we talk about the true effectiveness in education, we talk about students acquiring
knowledge to use, to create, to excavate their values and to accomplish their dreams. All these great imaginations can’t be realized unless educators establish their education system on the basis of individual needs and interests of each student. Although it can’t be realized right in contemporary society due to the financial power and people’s mind, the concept that meeting individual needs and interests can lead to truly effective education should always be kept in educators mind to make effort to approach this ideal status.
