ISSUE130 "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

The claim that the destiny of society hinges on how children are socialized is an over-statement,with which my contention involves the law of development of human history discovered by Marx. However, I strongly agree that we have not yet learned how to raise children for a better society, which in my view, resulted from misunderstanding of the fundemental purpose and nature of education.
Firstly,I concede that most people have suffered in childhood from unhealthy socializaton which have warped their development.Hense,as adults they have not realized their full and proper nature. The immediate purpose of human life is for each individual to fulfill his life cycle. This involves proper maturing into the fully developed adult of the species. So the whole of socialization of an individual is a matter of maturing, paradoxically, which is a wisdom and unfortunately not connected to age. If it were, it would be very easy, cause one would have a guarantee.Unhealthy socialization in childhood may contribute to immaturity in adulthood, which consequently affect one's cause and relationship with colleagues and is adverse to one's contribution to society .The human suffering is primarily the result of the failure of adults, because of improper child-socialization, to mature emotionally. Hense instead of enjoying their capacities for responsible work and love, they are grasping, egocentric, insecure, frustrated, anxious, and hostile. They feel something is wrong without knowing what it is. They feel frustrated, insecure, and anxious. And they react to these inner feelings just as any animal reacts to any hurt or threat: by readiness to fight or to flee.Flight carries them into alcoholism and other mental disorders. Fight impels them to crime, cruelty, war. This readiness to violence, this inhumanity of man to man, is the basic problem of human life--for, in the form of war,it now threatens to extinguish us.  Trying to solve every problem by fighting of fleeing is the primitive method, still central for the immature child. The later method, understanding and co-operation, requires the mature capacities of the adult. However, luckily maturity provides the path from madness to inner peace and satisfying living for each individual and for the human specie. And the basic solution for improper child-socialization and immaturity  is for people to understand the nature of their biological emotional maturity, to work toward it, to help the children in their development toward it. Consider Chanel, who recolutionized haute women's wear in spite of an impoverished upbringing.Consider Lincoln, the son of a Kentucky frontiersman, who grew upin a wild region with bears and other wild animals in the wood, had to struggle for a livingand for learning in his childhood.Consider Putin, whose father is a factory foreman and World WarII veteran, spent his childhood in a communal apartment with several other families. Because socialization is only one factor influencing the extent to which an individual will ultimately contribute to a better society and there is way to make up, to find a solution for improper child-socialization,I don't agree with the speaker that how children are socialized is a decisive factor determines the destiny of society.

The real truth determines the destiny of a society lies on what Marx discovered: the law of development of human history,a simple fact, hitherto concealed by an overgrowth of ideology, that mankind must first of all eat, drink, have shelter and clothing, before it can pursue politics, science, art, religion, etc.;that therefore, the production of the immediate material means of subsistence and consequently the degree of economic development attained by a given people or during a given epoch form the foundation upon which the state institutions, the legal conceptions, art and even the ideas on religion, of the people concerned have been evolved, and in the light of which they must, therefore, be explained, instead of vice versa. This truth indicates that it is technologies which push forward the innovations of society.Consider Edison, who made the first practical incandescent lamp and two thousands other inventions, contributed greatly to human's civilization and progress.Consider Ford, who was able to market the automobile to the general public because of advanced production technology.Consider Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft Corporation, the worldwide leader in software, services and Internet technologies for personal and business computing, completely change the way people think and get information..Marx also points out that change in the economic basis requires a corresponding change in the super structure and in art and literature and religion and it is this super structure determines the destiny of a society. For example, The economic crisis affected the entire capitalist world in which it originates. The impartial factor includes the unfair distribution and unfair dealing, is the basic point initiating an economic crisis. And this example aptly illustrates how the super structure determines the destiny of a society. At the present state of technique, spiritual civilization could also have an effect on social progress, even determines the destinies of not only the societies but also the human species. For example, the idea of achieving security through national armament is a disastrous illusion, which has been fostered by the fact that the United States succeeded first in producing an atomic bomb and finally result that this country has achieved decisive military superiority. The armament race between U.S.A and U.S.S.R in last century assumes hysterical character on both sides. From technique point of view, the radioactive poisoning of the atmosphere and hence annihilation of any life on earth has been brought within the range on the public horizon as a attainable possibility. Anyhow, every kind of peaceful co-operation among men is primarily based on mutual trust and only secondly on institutions such as courts of justice and police.Realizing the potential influence on society caused by human spiritual, development of human spirutual civilization is as just necessary and important  as the material civilizaton.

My agreement with the speaker lies on the assertion that we have not yet learned how to raise children for a better society, which in my view, resulted from misunderstanding of the fundemental purpose and nature of education. Because socialization is one factor influencing the extent to which an individual will ultimately contribute to a better society, the successful process of education should prepare an individual social adaptation and biological survival both in major knowledge and human spirit. The current education system emphasizes too much on major knowledge and cares little of the achievement individual attains in spirit. The students complain that a large share of the burden lies with the university and they rarely have time to seek out the inner peace let alone to think about human natures.Instead of inserting the stuffings of information into a person, I believe that, to understand human beings is the fundamental purpose and nature of education. And the process of education should be for people to understand the nature of their own biological emotional maturity,at least to work toward it ,during the search for truth.  Individuals are born with different combinations of innate potentialities, and that it will depend upon how they are educated--to trust and love and experiment and create, or to fear and hate and conform--what kind of human beings they can become. The words of Socrates keep coming back to me :"the unexamined life is not worth living." and education, in my opinion, should at least teach an individual how to examine him or her self, how to achieve emotional maturity. With emotional maturity, individual comes to believe in hope over despair, striving over resignation, faith over cynicism. With emotional maturity, they believe in the power of knowledge to make a world better place and truth could set us free. With emotional maturity, they believe in working to achieve social justice and freedom for all instead of scorning this notion as naive, claiming that all our efforts for equal opportunity, for justice, for freedom have created only a wasteland of failed hopes.

If our education system is guided according to this fundamental purpose of understanding human beings and working toward emotional maturity, when individuals step into the society and begin to have the concepts of reality, they will have a deep sense of responsibility for their thoughts and actions, they will believe in cooperation and take time to nurture their dreams, they will turn disappointments into strengths. Even when they learn to accept failure, accept loss, they can feel deep peace in heart, cause they learn during education that the beauty we fashion cannot be dimmed by death:our flesh may perish, our hands will wither, but that which they create in beauty and goodness and truth lives on for all time to come.

To sum up, just as Darwin discovered the law of development of organic nature, so Marx discovered the law of development of human history, in which points out whether super structure especially management of material wealth is corresponding to economic basis plays an decisive role in determining the destiny of society. The development of emotional maturity which influences the extent to which an individual will ultimately contribute to a better society can be hindered by improper child-socialization, and for this reason, we should clarify the fundamental purpose and nature of education and raise our children to a better society.
