Some acclaiming it as the obstacles of modern social progress and development, while others regard it as the guarantee of a cohesive society and a vibrant environment, culture traditions receive more controversial commentaries in modern era than ever before. Actually, as the culture traditions are both mental and moral treasures passed on from generation to generation, the essential issue is not whether they clash with the innovative and revolutionary society or not, nor in which case should modern citizens temporaryly overlook them, but how could human beings establish an alternative approach to seek for their connotations. So, being to serve as the best way to such purpose, the conduct of preservation and generation of the social culture traditions are necessary for both individuals and dominance hierarchy.
Apparently, global society and economy could be an extreme impact to the culture traditions both because the social competitive circumstance results in a tendency for people to be materialistic and spiritual hedonistic, and the economic environment overwhelms these "conservative and outdated" theories to build a wealth-oriented ideology. Nonetheless, extending their content and meanings, as long-lasting and universal conclusions or performances, culture traditions are expediting itself to suit modern situation rapidly. Moreover, the culture traditions erect a particular symbol to reinforce one's sense of belonging. These benefits are not for a particular group, but for every single person. Many Chinese, for example, often use the term "Descendant of the Dragoon" as a sign of ethnic identity. That totem of dragoon, is considered as the impulse of national unity and the symbolization of country, and exists amid our blood. Though fewer and fewer Chinese acknowledged it orally, morally and ethnically they are. So extensive and gnomic as the culture traditions are, government should commit to ensure their everlasting existing and passing on.
Committing itself to the preservation of the culture traditions, government should seek for any possible opportunity to disseminate and develop them. The situation of tradition spread could be optimistic by the approaches of both utilizing entertainment, advertisement and the Internet to visualize the meanings of culture traditions, and being represented by the songs, the films, and the novels. Attracting interests of the public, these mental heritages thus could be accepted and remembered proverbially. Illustrating the route of Santa Claus traveling from Canada to the US, the NORAD Tracks Santa project, for example, present the culture tradition, Christmas Day, to both children and adults in a more straightforward way. Obviously, since these approaches are all calling for financial support, fiscal aid should be taken into consideration to manage to spread the culture traditions all over the world. Where there is no widely understood, there is no preservation. After all, a drop of water could never dry up only when it is put into the sea.
Another problem for government to deal with is that how to pass on these legacies of our forebears accurately and constantly. Fortunately, human beings, as creatures of abilities of learning and analyzing, are able to not simply transform and develop customs and common sense into tradition, but improve and advance the traditions already exist. Whenever a young or an old reckons to judge the beneficial and detrimental parts of an affair, or an ideology with common sense, he would more or less apply for the assistance of traditions. Such a phenomenon might partly stem from the process of establishment of common sense and conscience in the childhood and adolescent of an individual. Actually, students are all fostered with the sense of patriotism and altruism in their childhood. Yet since the traditions may be misunderstood or even distorted during its development and spreading, government should put the measures, indicating the right way of culture traditions' development, and consummating their adaptability to modern society and economy, as its top priority. Inevitably these arrangements demand great financial support too.
Admittedly, as its optimistic effect, the fiscal aid of government would encourage the culture traditions to thrive. However, when the society, as a whole, meanwhile refuse to connect tradition with the criteria of moral, these unilateral efforts may lead to a peril, people ignoring and retorting the culture traditions while acknowledging and recognizing them, lurking in the vaults of society. In addition, since the fiscal support may be deficient in all aspects, personal financial patronage should also be an alternative approach. Instead of fostering alone, government should combine with and search for any assistances to preserve and generate the culture tradition. Embracing the advantage of association, goodness thus concedes with efficiency, and naive Good Samaritan, pestilent.
As is mentioned above, government should serve a lot, both in the preservation and development, and in the inheritance and innovation. Nevertheless, the culture traditions would never be carried forward brightly when individuals, fail to realize that they are not merely successor, but also exploiter and supporter. |
