By asserting that too much emphasis is placed on the modals, the speaker try to persuade people to learn to think, act and make choices independently. I tend to agree with the speaker to some extant. However, I would go further to contend that the positive effects of the modal deserve certain emphasis, due to its function as the successful experiences as well as educational paragon.

Admittedly, it is crucial for the people to blast the obsession of the role modals in order to make progress. Although following the paragon and copy their methods in dealing with problems will meet little obstacles in our lives, but the sequacity can not propel the development of the human society as it is just repeating what has been verified already again and again. Additionally, some people take the study of the modals as the excuse for their laziness and timidity to face the fundamental revolution brought by the breaking through of the traditional icons. Furthermore, we must also be alert of the possibility that the dictators explore the modals as a mean to cast procrustean rules on us and press the freedom of the public ideas, which is in clash with the spirit of freedom cherished by all of us.

Nevertheless, it is unwise for us to underrate the significance of the modals just because of the potential disadvantages. The role modals are the precious successful experiences in the development of the human being. No one will deny the fact that human make progress on the ground of the experiences accumulated by our forefathers as well as our contemporaries. Studying the modals in other fields or paragons in the history can make our work much easier and help us avoid some lethal mistakes. Without the copying of the methods invented by the modals, Ford’s assembly line would still be confined to his car factories, let alone contribute the whole industry of the society. And the democratic spirit of the Washington should be studied by us forever, even though the structure of the society has changed a lot since the foundation of the states.

Furthermore, role modals can be utilized as the educational paragons in cultivating our young generation. From the stories of the modals in the history, the young people, who haven’s got much life experiences, can make preparation for their future’s lives. Firstly, the modals motivate the young people keep on working hard and gain confidence in face of the hazards. The story of struggling in the jail for almost thirty years of Mandela has inspired several generations of the antiapartheid. Secondly, the role modals can also be used to assist the youth to establish proper sense of life and value. The story of the three lame chairs made by Einstein pass the virtue of assiduity to the youth, while the sacrifice of Bruno teaches the young people to insist on the truth and not yield to the authority blindly.

In summery, we should treat the role modals dialectically. On one hand, it is unwise for us to follow the modals blindly, which will finally lead to the perishing of our creative spirit; on the other hand, we should emphasize the positive role played by the modal in education. Only in this way can we take advantage of the role modals for our own lives and problems.
