Issue 144: It is the artist, not the critic who gives society something of lasting value?

If the artist’s works are the gold in the desert, then the critic is the people who exploit the gold and endow them with significant value; if the artist’s works are the pearls in the sea, then the critic is those who salvage them and bring forth to the public. Were there no critics, the gold are still abandoned in the sands, the pearl are still merged in the sea. While we value the contribution of the artist, there is no need to trivialize the significant of the critic’s work.

Admittedly, it is common knowledge that without artists there would be no works of art of any sort in the world. When we were amazed by the beauty of artistic masterpieces, we can not deny those numerous artists’ efforts that add much more colorful to our living world. Art can be found almost everywhere in our society: roadside, parks, streets, buildings and so one, not just in the museum. An artist’s inspiration and creative works reflect the full panoply history of human beings. We can never forget those famous artists such as Picasso, Beethoven, Shakespeare, etc… Without them, we lost the changes to indulge ourselves in the wonderful pictures, melody music’s, and brilliant dramas.

However, it is usually the critic who builds the bridge between the artists and common people, since they discover the artist, makes him or her known to the public, and records his or her achievements in history books. On the one hand, critics and help us understand and interpret art in correct ways. A critic who is familiar with particular artist and his or her works might have certain insights about those works than layman would not. Someone might argue that many famous and celebrated artistes were not recognized by the art critics of their time, often because their art was in a style not yet understood or favored. However, I said, it is just due to the later experts who earth out the invaluable price of these works and exhibit ant them to the public, so that today we are able to easily enjoy all of these masterpieces. Also, some critics, called militant critics have helped to explain and promote new art movements- Roger Fry with the Post-Impreesiononist movement for example.

On the other hand, the critic’s evaluation of an art work also serves as a filter which helps us determine which art is worth our time and attention. Hardly deny in now such an information explosion era, almost everyone more or less has the ability to create personal artic works. Every time you open the television, access to the Internet, or open a newspaper, you can find lots of information artistic celebrities, including red actors, pop music stars, and hot dancers and so on. In facing with so large amount of distinct works, most of us will be confused if without the help of art critics, who have more professionally artistic knowledge than us. Also, their critiques on certain classical artworks bring significant assistances to those young artic. Thanks to the critics, now times, almost every young student, even from elementary schools, can touch into those masterworks and find out their brightness thought reading the text books written by them. Additionally, the critics can also provide feedback for artic and constructive criticism, if taken to heart, can result in improving their work toward right depiction.

To sum up, artistic and artists supplement each other, since both of them have indelible contributions to our society and world around us, bring us something of lasting value. As time passes, the greatest works are those which are created by artists and evaluated by critics which draw people’s attention of these works.

Were there no critics, the gold are still abandoned (被遗弃?应该是没被挖掘~)in the sands, the pearl(单复数!) are still merged in the sea. While we value the contribution of the artist, there is no need to trivialize the significant(用名词significance) of the critic’s work.

Admittedly, it is common knowledge that without artists there would be no works(否定用单数.) of art of any sort (no work ofany sort of art)in the world. When we were amazed by the beauty of artistic masterpieces, we can not deny those numerous artists’ efforts (用of会比用名词所有格更地道)that add much more colorful(应该用名词color) to our living world. Art can be found almost everywhere in our society: roadside, parks, streets, buildings and so one(笔误), not just in the museum. 不太正确哦!) and creative works reflect the full panoply history of human beings. We can never forget those famous artists such as Picasso, Beethoven, Shakespeare, etc… Without them, we lost the changes to indulge ourselves in the wonderful pictures, melody music’s, and brilliant dramas.

However, it is usually the critic who builds the bridge between the artists and common people, since they discover the artist, makes(从句主语是复数。。) him or her known to the public, and records(同上) his or her achievements in history books. On the one hand, critics and(?) help us understand and interpret art in correct ways. A critic who is familiar with particular artist and his or her works might have certain insights about those works than layman(语法错误,加上who) would not.

To sum up, artistic and artists(。。。) supplement each other, since both of them have indelible contributions to our society and world around us, bring us something of lasting value. As time passes, the greatest works are those which are created by artists and evaluated by critics which draw people’s attention of these works.(As time passes by, the great works remained are those created by artists and evaluated by critics.
