发现黄本的最后几个exercise好像很难啊，一下有三个实在想不明白的
E72 第三题

答案选的是A..确实看不懂，我连题干都没读明白，怎么是be constantly returned呢？？不会是打印错了吧？

答案选的是B，还是很迷茫。。。把答案代进去读都觉得句子的意思莫名其妙的。。

答案选的是A..确实看不懂，我连题干都没读明白，怎么是be constantly returned呢？？不会是打印错了吧？

后半句and是个小连接，前面说constantly，所以that后面的分句brought... to...就是and前面return的同义重复，所以空格二必须是constantly的同义重复才可以。这时候a和b候选。再根据前半分句的语境说civil war是这个人生命经历的中心，可见对战争评价很高，所以B的interruption就不合适，因为自小就有这种感受一定不能使interruption的。所以选A。  黄皮书后面几个exercise是NO题的第一部分，已经非常古老了，大概是80年代初期的北美GRE考题。非常不成熟的题目，所以用他来准备今天的GRE考试填空没有多大意义。楼主做过就可以了，不要太过于重视它。 还是把现行的主流的NO4-9和国内90-99的题目好好研读好就足够了。

transform  sth  from A into B 是一个明显的AB两部分取非的短语， 后面说does not eyewitness。。。。 所以根据主干大法来说，转变并没有怎么样？？？  当然是转变并没有转变啊。 所以第一个空找一个和转变的同义词，没有就找上意词。 发现几个选项中没法选，所以只能反过来看：也就是把明显不对的剔除（注意这种从反面来思考的思维对于填空排除干扰选项特别重要！！！） A C E明显不对，所以率先排除。留下D和B候选。再看第二个空 extra-ordinary是第二个空判断的关键 这里作者想说什么呢？他想说一种特殊的普通，可见作者强调的还是普通中带有特殊的，因此根据细节法来看的话，第二个空应该填一个略带褒义色彩的词汇。另外考虑到主干从一个好的状态转变到不好的状态并不能否认或者使什么无效呢？ 当然是不能否认好的状态了，或者不能使好的状态无效了，因此第二个空必须是褒义词。所以只能选B。

老实说这道题的确很难，我也想了半天。从逻辑分析的确挺绕的。我如果在现场做的话，这道题怎么也要想将近一分钟了。不过还是ETS的老题目，没有参考价值的。

这道题主要是在考对于词汇理解的精度上了。首先很多人并不知道lump作动词讲是什么意思。lump在四级词汇里的名词意思我们都知道：小块。

但是这里考的是动词意思：Main Entry:2lump
Function:verb
Date:1624
transitive senses  
1 : to group indiscriminately
2 : to make into lumps;  also   : to make lumps on or in
3 : to move noisily and clumsily
intransitive senses  
1 : to become formed into lumps
2 : to move oneself noisily and clumsily

当然如果lump不知道动词意思也不要紧，因为后面的 together ，the same。。。也都提示了第一个空要先选出C和D来，于是再读我们发现assumption 和pretense是相似意思的词汇。逻辑关系把握住了后就是同义词辨析了。到底是什么呢？答案肯定是题干中某处的重复了。所以我们精读一遍题干that后面的部分： that the same principles apply to each 这就是关键信息。到底是assumption距离这个意思近呢？还是pretense呢？

看下MW对两个词汇的解释： pretense:  4：false show : SIMULATION *saw through his pretense of indifference*

                                     assumption:  Date:13th century
1 a : the taking up of a person into heaven  b capitalized   : August 15 observed in commemoration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
2 : a taking to or upon oneself *the assumption of a new position*

  可见pretense的第4条解释比assumption更符合。   所以选D   

  这个题比上一个题更加苛刻~！！！~  我也晕眩中了~~~:L :dizzy:           其实我觉得早期北美题真的没有必要做了。 还是好好把主流题目研究好就行了。这种出题设问的方式和现行GRE的差距已经很大了。

这道题看第一个and是一个小连接 所以and后面有空的话 答案就是and前面的同义重复 in a context of jargon and verbal delicacy 的同义重复就是了。所以选C。注意这个题两空距离非常近，这时候两个空可以看成一个空的意思来做题。 jargon的意思就是暗语，也就是不容易让人懂得暗号语言。所以特点就是euphemism  不可能是circumlocution 累赘冗余  也不能是cliche陈腐    d和e就更不是特点了。 第二个空也是这样literal是刻板的 精确的，lucid是清晰的，正好意思相反 impenetrable 难以理解，就是正确答案  delieberate蓄意的 这个没有看出来  enthralling是迷人的意思 这个也没有

这个题没有看懂没有关系，还是按照句子的逻辑关系找重复，分号代表同义重复 所以前后两个分句同义重复。空格处的信息来自分号前面的分句。declining into a constant of aesthetic intolerance。低落到对美持续不能容忍的状态。后面分句也说了不喜欢任何的当代文学。这里当代文学就是前面美学的意层上的同义重复 空格就是constant这个词在同一意群下的上意重复。找一个词有持续的且是令人很烦很不爽的持续性的意思词汇。bibulous叫做嗜酒的，没有关系。 incipient叫做初期的也看不出来。subtle是微妙的，完全反义   tasteless没有味道，淡定的。 这个也不行 querulous叫做：吵闹的，抱怨的，唠唠叨叨不停地。。。  所以就选E就行了。

首先把主干找出来 understanding is profound，好了，下面的内容，必须是这个意思的同义或者上义重复，分号后的句子是 recognized。。。 和前面平行，所以再看 few，我们就明白了 既然profound所以，只有很少的人怎么样呢？ 只有很少的人明白或者理解啊。 因此第二个空要填一个能理解或者明白意思的词汇，A B D E 候选。 再看第一个，albeit是转折带有递进的意味，所以必须和第二个空上义相反，和第一个空必须有关系，所以确定不是贬义词。D和E（没有重复）排除，B和A候选。albeit带有转折，所以b不能选，选A。

答案是A.

and therefore是解题线索，这表明前面和后面重复。 more challenging ..... 这是前面audience的特点。因此是mature。 critic是批判者，批判者对大是大非感兴趣，对有没有挑战性和激情没有兴趣。 这道题很奇怪，不必做深入研究，按照我们中国人的想法，成熟的人对于challenging的东西很反感，他们认为稳重大方是成熟的表现。但是美国人不这么看，这道题有东西方文化背景，所以做错没关系。这道题出的不好罢了。

这是NO题的老题了，题目只是用来练习解题技巧和题感的，这种题不必在乎正确与否。
