In the lecture, the professor makes several points about changes in charitable giving. The professor claims that charitable giving in the United States will grow up. This contradicts the point demonstrated in the reading passage that the charitable giving is unlikely to increase in the future.

The first point that the professor used to cast doubt on the reading is the fact that the increasing number of poor or retire people, because they can not afford the payment of house care, and the government have to pay for them. So these government institutions of social welfare will not be permanent. This is very different from the reading, while states that the diminished need for private charitable giving will be permanent.

The second point that professor challenged the reading is that the managers of nation charities who receive huge salaries and other benefits will cause public anger. The anger will bring more efficient management and benefit the charitable giving. On the contrary, the reading passage contends that people will turn off by these excesses and inefficiencies naturally.

Finally, the author of the reading points out that people are now becoming skeptical even about what are in fact legitimate appeals for support, so potential donors are starting to give less. However, the lecture states that the potential donors will be more careful before their donation.
