Should we distribute more money to immediate,existing social problems or to long-term research that might help generatation?The speaker maintains that the former one outweighs the later one.I yield myself to this contention to some extent,arguing that money allocated to immediate,exitsting problems does function immediately, however, we should synthesize both the contemporary social problems and long-term research that might help future generations.My slant is supported on a case-by-case basis by the posterier analysis.

It is true that contemporary social problems such as unemplyment, environmental deterioration and public security are so urgent that we have no choice but to confront by means of allocating money for these immediate,existing social problems.Take unemployment for example, if it is well resolved, these laid-off workers will benefit from it, so do their families and ultimately the whole society.On the contrary, if we pass these problems by, a series of problems such as widespread malcontent,rumor or even rables will appear as a result.
In the 1998 East Asia's Economic Erisis, Thailand is a case in point, at that time, tens of thousands of people strolled on the streets without jobs, rumor was everywhere,rebels were somewhere and ultimately the whole nation went into bankruptcy. Simply put, money spent on settling contemporary problems palys an important part in keeping the whole society running well.

However, long-term research should never be neglected. Long-term research comprises all that have never happened but are predictable on the way of our development, such as the genetic engineering,research on new energy. Although their functions seem to be vague at present,potentially,they will clear away the obstacles we might confront some day in the development. Genetic engineering, whose goal is to decoding all the chromosomes of our human beings and ultimately modifying some unfavorable recessive genes that are disease-producing, is under study.Just imagine the comfortalbe life we will experience without all kinds of afflicting diseases. If long-term research are overlooked, a variety of unpredictable problems will obstruct us from further development.The huge population of
India is a case in point. India, although the earlies country in the world to propose "Planned Parenthood" as early as in the 1950s but overlooked the intensive study,now raises over one billion people which has seriously obstructed its contemporary development. Accordingly,money put on research that might help future generation will pay off.

What is more, if we define modern development as some kind of "sustainable development", we modern citizens must realize the necessities and possiblities of synthesizing handling contemporary social problems and long-term research. Actually,they would contribute to each other if handld properly.Take the research on new energy,a long-term research, for example.If it is successfully invented, not only will we enjoy low-cost energy,but we also have no need to handle the troublesome problems on environmental pollution which is a immediate, existing problems.Only in that way could we realize genuine "sustainable development".
