  Is the chief benefit of the study of history to remove the fantacy that different period people has no significantly different charactors, as the speaker asserts? However, as far as I am concerned, though people in different ages indeed share some same elements in our basic life, there are still some stunning differences existing in our daily life and even in our ideoloy field.
  Admittedly, I concede that people in different periods share some similarities. Consider, for example, each individual at any other time in history must be saticfied with clothing, food and housing which is called basic needs. What's more, the exploration of unknown is also needed by some people in varied eras such as some philosophy issues on where am I from and where should I go? So is the persue of dream, power and treasure, people in different times take their pains to achieve them during which someone success while others fail in that process; someone reach out to success for themselves while small portion of people make it in vile means. Simply put, no matter what else others may be said, we would agree that people in one period of time resembles the one in the other period of time in some basic aspects.
  However, though the basic similarities exist, we can still find some striking distinguishments not only in our daily life but also even in ideoloy and social system. At the level of daily life, for instance, transportation have changed so much that I am sure that these are beyond the most wildest dreams of people in the past who think riding horses is the fastest transportation. At the level of ideology and social system, the differences are more distinct than the former. Nowadays the equality between man and woman has been widely accepted by people in many countries while in the past the person who holds on this brief may be killed by other people or his or her government. Other examples, like our  social system, which are foundamentally different from the ones in the past. Our contemporary social system emphasize the viewpoint that people are born equal and every adult has right to vote and remark the news takes place recently while the past social systems share a common feature--hierarchy, in which people lived have no freedom to content or right to vote. In a word, significant difference between today and the past is not just a illlution.
  Moreover, the benefits of the study of history bring us far more than the realization of differences and similarities of varied ages. There are so many other benefits which is also very important such as the agreement on our own country's culture, through learning our history about the process of how our country build up and develop into the situation of today children can understand the origin of their country and invest more affection into his or her nation. And by reading the history books, we can learn some lessons which may be made by ourselves in the future such as the scandal of watergate, involved the president Nixon and finally lead to his resignation, from which we are aware of the honesty is the most important in camparision to profits. All in all, the benefits we get from the study of history is more than the conclusion of speaker and some benefits are as important as the the  recognization of differences and similarities.
  To sum up, from the analysis and reasoning above, I can safely arrive at the conclusion that though the similarities exist, we, at the same time, should admit that there are still differences in the different periods of history. In addition, the benefits of the study of history is not chiefly the one as speaker's opinion, we can also gain profit from the other aspects of history.
