TOPIC: ISSUE153 - "Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."

The speaker asserts that students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively. I somehow agree with this argument that even though skepticism seems to threaten the stability of the society it is generally beneficial for people to hold a skepticism attitude which is a key condition for the development of the entire human society.
What I mean about the term "skepticism" is essentially different from the commotion caused by ignorance. Skepticism is based on a comprehensive knowledge and is questioning matters reasonably. In this case, what education should focus on is to teach the students the way of judging independently instead of question their teachers and textbooks unconditionally. What matters for a eligible student is the ability to decide whether to support or to against after a careful investigation. Education should value more about the process of skepticism than the result or position, which, however may turn out to be false in the end.
The reason why skepticism is so important for students and even everyone is that to hold a attitude of skepticism will lead people to think about problems at different aspects and to ponder much more carefully. The modern society is filled of complicated problems which have became specifically intricate because of the diversity of the world caused by the great development in both technology and social ethics after the Industrial Revolution. In such a society the ability which can be greatly improved by hold the attitude of skepticism to make the right decision is a basic requirement for modern civilians.
Meanwhile, skepticism is a symbol showing that students are really devoting themselves into study. To raise a question is the first step of studying actively for students. It is just from question the traditions and textbooks that science has progressed. It is the doubt about the classic Newton mechanics that makes physicists create the quantum mechanics to depict the microscope world and the relativity (by a well-known scientist Albert Einstein) to explain the cosmos. Skepticism helps us to find flaws in classic theories and hence put forward solutions which may lead to a great revolution in certain fields.
Admittedly, skepticism may somehow cause a commotion in society. However, such commotion is also possible to have a advantage in the improvement of society. When people feel skepticism in their belief of the president, an impeachment may occur and the result is probably the replacement of a better leader and the stepping down of the last one. Such process does good to the political world and can supervise the leader's fulfilling of his asseverations.
In sum, I believe that skepticism is a impetus to science both natural and societal. It is the attitude of skepticism that makes today's better life. Skepticism, especially which was drown after a careful and comprehensive investigation of the problem is very important for students because it is the very symbol of their active study - a way and the only way to acquire knowledge effectively.
