Issue88 Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics.

The author makes feel sick since his words about the development of technologies is so cynical which maybe overstates the bad effects of the technologies. I admit that technology created some dangers to our society, however, it also satisfy our human beings desire to change something, to obtain what we want. In that words, we should not fix the blame only to technology without asking ourselves what have we done that not so good?

Technology, as well as other social terms, is a broad concept. It refers to the material objects of use to humanity, such as machines or hardware, which have something to do with our daily lives. The reason for technology to exist is that it can be exploited by us. From Greek time to the modern age, every achievement of the society is made by those who understand the power of technologies and practice them to the construction of the social systems. If there was not the Four Inventions, those ancient captains cannot find the new continent , those who protect themselves from invasions cannot win the cruel game of human races, and those who want to write something for the successors cannot reserve the precious historical facts. Moreover, if the modern scientist had not invented the approach to find the secret of genes, our human being would suffer more disease which is natural born. And if the machines had not been invited to the factories, we would not enjoy the tasty foods and comfortable cloths which were only provided to the royal families.

However, the facts are far more than the best, since there are not only the beautiful minds involved in the development of the technologies, but also the evil ones who use the scientific breakthrough for the harmful events. Oppenheimer was able to change more than the course of a war, he changed the entire course of human history. Is it wrong to hold on that kind of hope? No, it is someone’s aggressive desire to control the world, not Oppenheimer’s pure thought to make contributions to enhance the productivity of humanity. And the technology of clone is the same case. It is not the technology itself which can determine and change the social customs and ethics, but the ways to use it. The author’s trepidation relies on the facts that during the recent centuries, many wars and conflicts and ethical problems seemed caused by the newly arousing technologies, but he (as well as most of us) fails to consider the real potential threat under the cover of the horrors.

Lastly, I want to emphasize that the customs and ethics cannot be easily changed by the technologies, since we must know the truth that it is us who create those helpful technologies. We should not be lost in the tricky and kol（时间到了）kaleidoscopic technological approaches to make our dreams artificially come true. It is time to think about the behaviors of human beings.
