Does it necessary for all faculty in school to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to their courses? Although someone might argues that compelling professors and teachers to other jobs besides the school may distract their energy and time which should be better put on the academic pursuit, I insist on the agreement with the speaker’s claim that by this way the quality of college and university would be significantly improved, and which in turn will benefit to all the students studying in the college and university.

On the one hand, as for professors and teachers, encouraging them to join some academic-relevant works outside school will help them well prepare their school’s courses as well as academic researches. It is no doubt that in the modern age our society is developing in an increasingly rapid space, especially in the field of science. In order to catch up with the temperate knowledge, the necessary for faculty to engage in some jobs in the society is very essential than ever before. Nowadays, just within one year, the personal computer might be updated through several generations. For example, before last year, few people in our country know the new kind of personal computer which has two CUP (center execution process). But this years, no matter you walk in any digital market, a wide variety of computer with double-core CUP are putting in front of your. If the professor merely satisfies himself/ herself with the knowledge in the old textbooks or courses not need too long time, he or she will totally behind the academic development.

Additionally, the professional works outside the academic world sometimes bring significant inspiration and enlightening to individuals. Yuanlong Pin, a great Chinese professor, is right a good example. The idea he found that the hybrid rice is able to generate much more products than the common rice comes from his works in the farmland rather than in the college’s laboratory. Without the practical experiences in the field, Yuanlong Pin may never find such theory that not only prown him as “The father of super hybrid rice”, but also help solve the rice-needy problem all over the world.

On the other hand, if the professor and teachers have strong practical knowledge outside the school, the direct are the students. Everyday’s school works account for student a bulk of time and energy, which is also the most effective way to expose students to the outside world. If teachers can propriety combines his or her practical knowledge with the textbook, then students can not only better deeply understand the books but also recognize the knowledge’s useful function. Also, by adding the newest information in the course, it is easier to motivate student’s spirit and curios, so that completely stimulate the class’s emotion on study and form a cozy atmosphere in the classroom. Furthermore, in this dramatically competing society, whether managing certain working skills is very vital for graduates. Nowadays, almost every of the workplaces require the applicants possessing several year’s working experiences. Thus by well preparing students with the practical abilities in the college and university’s study, it will offers graduates much more opportunities to find decent jobs.

Admittedly, it does not necessary to enforce the entire faculty in school to spend time working outside the academic world in professions. Many fields of academic subjects are really hard to find a social works relevant to their courses: for example, the mathematics, history, politics, and so on. Simply requiring every teacher do works outside their academic world only leads to generating negative effects on their teaching and research.

All in all, supporting the faculty to participate in certain jobs outside the academic world that are relevant to their courses is beneficial not only to their own teaching works, but also to all of the students in the colleges. However, instead of compelling the entire faculty to follow it, the policy should be flexible enough, which also take into account the special cases.
