11"All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."
As more and more countries put a lot of emphasis on improving the state of the economy, there comes out plenty of continual social problems, which may happen in one or a few countries but influence the whole world. Under these circumstances, it is necessary to appeal for the establishment of a global university which is to engage students in the process of solving these global nagging problems.
Having the common sense we all know that there exists so many multifarious culture in our world. People from different countries have distinct cultural, political and economic backgrounds, which may lead to diverse and even conflictive opinions and criteria of judging. Therefore, when we are solving a problem which has connection with different countries we should communicate with people from these countries and deliberate over our ideas so as to find out the best solution which can benefits our world most.
Here are the possible situations. When solving the problems of deteriorating environment such as water pollution, the depletion of atmospheric ozone, and global warming, students should ascertain which countries should be imputed to most and trace the reason why these countries require doing so. Afterwards, they should negotiate a remedy of preserving the interests of these countries as well as protecting deserved rights of other countries. In another case, if country A possesses a great many citizens who can't find a job while country B lacks labor for development, students could arrange the employment from country B to country A as long as the citizens of A are willing to.
Notwithstanding the foregoing reasons why a global university should be founded to solve many of our most urgent social problems, the establishment of such a university turns to be impracticable. It is entirely possible that not all nations, as the author said, will in support of this project. There are still plenty of people suffering from homelessness and famine, thus the most prior thing their countries concerns is to fulfil the needs of living and eating. Hence, the project will be unfair to these countries, which may be excluded. However, the idea of solving problems together with different people, who possess diverse backgrounds, is meaningful after all.
In summary, we should convene as more as countries to set up a global university, or at least intercourse more frequent, to solve the world's most persistent social problems.
