Successful applicants will be involved in interdisciplinary research on cardiovascular tissue engineering based between the research groups of Professor Teoh Swee Hin from the Faculty of Engineering as well as Professor Lee Chuen Neng and Dr Jerry Chan from the School of Medicine. The project is based on developing cell sheet constructs based on stem cells and bioresorbable films for layer-by-layer assembly of stratified tissue, with the objective of developing tissue engineered blood vessels for applications in bypass surgeries. The research will involve a combination of cutting edge technologies for tissue engineering scaffold fabrication, material surface modification, stem cell isolation, cultivation, characterization and differentiation, as well as the use of experimental animal models. This project is funded by Ministry of Education (MOE) and successful applicants will be financially supported by an MOE scholarship.
