Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Drivers should pay a fee to be allowed to drive on the city streets during the time when there is the greatest amount of traffic. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.


With the burgeoning growth of private transportation, a fever issue that whether drivers should pay a fee to be allowed to drive on the city streets during peak time, is being discussed recently. Some people, mostly private car owners argue that it is ridiculous as well as outrageous for government to make such a regulation. However, if the situation is considered from an objective perspective, it is not hard for us to realize what a wise decision it is in dealing with traffic problems and environmental tasks.

To begin with, a fee required for private cars' driving in peak time exerts a significant influence upon improving the increasingly serious traffic situation. On account of the quickening pace of life and elevating of average income level, a majority of people tend to own a private car in dealing with the transportation problem, which, on one side, brings about certain convenience; on the other side, imposing considerable pressure on heavy traffic. However, if an extra expense is defined by government in peak time, private car drivers would reschedule their routes to avoid the crowd time intervals from a consideration of economic point. Consequently, a smooth traffic image may arise from this change.

Moreover, undoubtedly the fee would serve as a catalyst for modification of our environmental situation. It is an old riff of emphasizing how important the sustainable development notion mean to us and how emergent the environmental protection it is when we take the current environment situation into account. From the research conducted by WHO (World Health Organization ), traffic pollution has been one of the top5 contamination, ranking the third place. If the new regulation about charging a fee for driving during peak time could be carried out, a significant decline of transportation load would be contributed to since economic life style is on its day, bringing out a positive influence upon environmental protection and modification. Additionally, governments' applying the fee into building up public transportation would also be salubrious to the environmental task, as well as to social development.

For the reasons presented above, I strongly incline to the decision of charging a certain fee from private car owners for driving in peak time because of the obvious merits from it in solving traffic and environmental problems.
