Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The next twenty years from now on, students will not use printed books any more. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.08/04/07

In this highly-developed world, more and more technologies have been used in our daily life and the education process, such as computers and televisions. Some people state that the twenty years from now on, students will not use printed books any more. As far as I know, this statement will not come true in twenty years.

I admit that computers, televisions and other new technology can help students a lot not only in the learning process but also in relax. The images can make the learning process interesting and vivid. Using properly, they can improve our education greatly. But this does not guarantee that books can be replaced in twenty years.

First of all, in developed countries, things like computers, televisions are quite common and seems omnipresent. Most people can afford them. While in developing countries, not every one is that rich, some might do not have enough money to satisfy their basic needs like food and dwelling. Taking a look at the African world, we can see how desperate their lives be. Do you think they can afford the computers? I believe that even twenty years later there are still some people who can not afford computers. For these people, the much cheaper printed book is a good and maybe the only source of knowledge.

Secondly, books have many advantages over computers or televisions. For instance, books are easy to take. We can put a book in our handbag, whenever we have time, such as waiting for a train or sitting in a cafe waiting for the latte, we can get the book and take a glimpse, As a consequence, more knowledge is absorbed. While both computers and televisions are not that easy to carry. In addition to this, while the images in computers and televisions confine us to certain pictures, books encourage us to expand the imagination, which is of great significance not only in the learning but also in our lives. From the words in the book, we can create a wonderland in our minds. Moreover, comparing with books, computers and televisions do more harm to our eyes and skins.

Though the new technology provides us more methods to study, I believe that books can not be replaced in regard of all the aspects discussed above.
