TOPIC: ISSUE221 - "The chief benefit of the study of history is to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who lived at any other time in history."

Whether people in one period of time are significantly different or not from people who lived at any other time in history, most people would blurt out with the positive answer. But the speaker believes that people from all the time lives a different life is an illusion which seems to be ridiculous to most people. The question should be under complete consideration, not research only by the study of history ,as the speaker claims, but also consider the combination with other curriculums which is relative to this issue.

Among all the courses, history is definitely the most direct way to comprehend the people and their life of every other period of time in history. The study of history, detailed and rich, mentioned any specific aspect of people. There are historians in any period of time, and the masterpieces left by them are the straight evidence to learn for today's historians. As an typical example which is of high relativity, China has a five-thousand-years of history,which is scribbled down by the historians all along the history in different form,silk or paper; and written down officially or just repeated by persons from generation to generation. From these precious works and researching by the contemporary historian, we clearly discover that though people who lives in totally different living conditions seems to be different, their basical needs, their desiration to conquer, their will to live a much happier life is of no differences comparing with today's people. This illustrates that it is human nature which determines the positive answer to the question which mentioned in first paragraph.

However, history, relative to many subjects, is not a isolated course. Researching the study of history in order to figure out the question that whether the people in any period of time in history is not sufficient. Paleontology, anthropology art and so on which is of chief significance in learning the people in different period of time in history. Although European countries do not have custom to descript the things that had happened along the history, but some other literate form is of the same function as the history book, such as drama, paintings, and even log of ship, provides enormous contributions to study the human nature. It obviously illustrate that study the history works separately is not sufficient to clarify the issue of human nature of different historical periods. Different academic fields bring broader and richer knowledge to the issue and enable to figure out the problem in a complete perspective.

Anthropology, including two aspects to research: people’s biological and cultural properties and process which leads to form the character of contemporary people, plays a vital role in the human nature study. Along the different periods of time, human evolution happens all the way. From walking by four feet to walking upright, human beings experience countless changes, but the essence of human beings which determines the answer of the
“remain same or being different” question, is changeless.

All in all, we are able to draw the final conclusion as that people remains safe in the different period of time in some certain level, and history cannot be the chief tool to prove that people do not change. Researching the interdisciplinary of different academic fields which relative to the human nature could be the best way to answer the question that whether people is changeable or not along the history.
