The Nobel Prize of physics goes to Charles Kao, standard communication Labs in England and the Chinese university of Hong Kong, and George Smith and William B of Bell labs in New Jersey. Kao figured out how to (transmit) light (over) long distance in (optical视觉的，光学的 glass) fibers. The CCD is a crucial component of (advanced) cameras and it finds numerous applications运用 in scientific and medical equipment. For example , it gives us the spectacular 壮观的 images of the universe that we can see today.

Some people like to think there is something faded(fated) about who we fall in love with. It’s that perfect mix of attraction, compete ability(compatibility兼容性) and of course timing(时间掌握/安排). But in some cases, fate may be taking its cues from birth control pills. First let’s go over women’s cycling(cycle) that have(and how that ) affects attraction. When women are (ovulating排卵) their features changing with(in ways) that a man unconsciously pick up. So men are particularly attracted to women when they’re fertile ['fə:tail; 'fə:til]. And it works in other way too. When a woman is fertile, she is more attractive to man with more traditionally muscular(masculine ['mɑ:skjulin]雄性的，男子气的) features and who are genetically dissimilar to her. Or more compatible in terms of 与…相关[/color](procreating生殖). Of course (oral contraception 口服避孕)changes women’s hormone cycles. Her body thinks it’s pregnant and doesn’t go through ovulation-induced changes. And this study published this month in the journal (trends in ecology生态学) and evolution. Researchers say that women on the pill do not show the ovulation-induced attraction to genetically dissimilar partners. So they might be choosing men who are genetically similar. which could lead to(some of the problems with) conception that  have become increasingly common. Because attraction isn’t fate, it’s chemistry.

If the human genome were put in a straight line, it would be over six and half feet long. So how do you store all the DNA in a tiny nuclear(nucleus ['nju:kliəs]原子核)? And have some(the cell) manager (manage it)? Researchers explain how in the study featured on the cover封面 of Oct. 9th issue of the journal science. Using new (analytic  [ˌænə'litik]分析的) techniques, E and C found that genome is packed into what’s called a fractal (globule ['glɔbju:l]小球体), despite being intensive twisted, the (string) of genes never (knots). This type of shape was mathematically (postulated假定）over a century ago, and has now been shown to describe genome’s 3 dimensional structure. But the big finding is that cell nucleus has two components [kəm'pəunənt](compartment间隔，包间). And gene is only active in one. All cells create the same completed genome, but different genes get turn down(turned on), for example in a liver cell compared with a nerve cell. It turns out that genes to be used and(in a) given cell get (shuttled穿梭) into the nucleus’s active section, domain(dormant休眠的) genes stay out. The system allows each cell to make sensitive(make sense 讲得通of) information stored trillions of times more density(densely ['densli]密集的) than what’s on a computer (chip).

many people in Asia had thought the Prize might go to Chinese （dissidents['disidənt] 不同意见者) to mark the 20th (anniversary [ˌæni'və:səri]) of the student democracy protests that the Beijing government brutally crushed in 1989. Wand Dang was one of those protesters. He spent years in(连读and连读 out) the jail in China after 1989, and was sent to (exile ['eksail,放逐) in Unite States in 1998. he is now a visiting assistant professor of history in Jiangzhe University in Taiwan. “of course I congratulate for president Obama, but still feel sorry for Chinese dissidents, because they didn’t win the prize. ” Wang also says he thinks giving the prize to the dissidents might (have done) more for world peace. “this is a crucial time for the whole world, and the Chinese. China as a rising power they really need democracy. So peace prize can be a great encouragement for democracy of China. And this democratization of china will be the greatest contribution for the world peace.(六四啊…哎~)”

In a (ceremony庆典) Saturday, Poland became the 26th country to (ratify批准) the Lisbon （treaty条约）. Despite his personal antipathy toward the European Union, Polish president LC signed the record. Poland Prime Minister DK explained the government’s reasoning论证. Mr. K said the treaty gives added degree of security to the nations that have suffered the most, and Poland is one of those. He says Poland is not ready to be a responsible (co-leader) in Europe. And the signature is a proof of that. Earlier President C said that he would ratify the Lisbon Treaty only if Ireland did. When (Irish) voters approved the treaty earlier this month in (a second referendum公民投票), he (vowed) to keep his word. But President C, a member of the far right Peace and Justice Party, has long (shied惊退) away from the deeper involvement with the European Union. Even during the signing ceremony, he emphasizes that the EU should remain a union of a (sovereign['sɔvrin]主权的，至高的) states. Opinion polls show that most (Poles波兰人) support both the EU and the Lisbon Treaty. But small (minority [mai'nɔriti,少数民族) still believes that more powerful EU means loss of national (self-determination自主). There was (a handful一捧，少部分) of protesters outside the presidential (Palace['pælis]连读in Warsaw) Saturday morning. One man (is adamant ˈædəmənt强硬的). He says the EU just want to dominate us, to take away our ability to make decision for ourselves. Now the signature missing is that of Czech President V C, who has also expressed concern about more powerful EU. You’ve no double heard of “free radical自由基”, those nasty污秽的，危害的 chemicals that seem to contribute to heart disease, cancer and all sorts of human ailments. Maybe you’ve even taken(连读 antioxidant vitamins ['vaitəmin) to help get rid of these unwanted toxicants. Well, maybe you shouldn’t. because new study in the journal cell metabolism[me'tæbəlizəm]新陈代谢 suggest when it comes to diabetes, free radicals can be good for you. And antioxidant might make things worse. Free radical can damage vital cell components, and our body produce it naturally when metabolize v.新陈代谢 food. So, it (stands) to reason合乎逻辑, if we eats lots and lots of food would make tons of radicals, and put ourselves at risk of becoming serious obese肥胖的, and developing diabetes. All of which is bad, but it’s actually not that simple. you see, in addition to being (potentially) harmful, free radical is also necessary for cells to communicate. And particularly [pə'tikjʊləli] it help muscle cell respond to insulin. So mice that can’t get rid of free radical actually do well on a high fat diet. And it’s only when they are given antioxidant, they dig diabetes. If all that make you headache(head hurt), go for a nice walk, because exercise is still good for you.
