Does the chief benefit of the study of the history is to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who live at any other time in history? Different people hold different opinions, while in my point of view, I partly agree with the author. But I can't agree with the goal of study of history the author mentioned.


Admittedly, our time is changing ceaseless, history is processing. Our way of life is totally different from people who lived in the past period of time. Today we use telephone, cell phone or internet to communication with people all over the world which are different from people in the past, such means allow modern people have a relative wild range of communication and can meet more people with different nationality, different religious, different culture. Today people choose train or airplane to travel, however, in the past several centuries; people almost hardly believe that they could go beyond the earth and some day our human's foot print was leave on the moon, let alone to go to the Mars and Beyond, but these all become reality. To these extents, in one period of time, people are significantly from any other time in history.

However, there are also many things remain unchanged though thousands of years. For example, in the field of arts, people have the same resonant to the art work, the sculptures or paintings in the Renaissance also have the same value in our daily life, because they are not only meet people’s pursuit of beauty, but reflect the spirit of our human being which have never alter such as the desire for freedom, pursue for the individual's right and so forth. And people's logic thinking is also keep the same, Aristotle use deduce method and Bacon first introduce induce method to the public to analyze the complex problems, such analyze methods still have the most vitality today in both the research in social science and nature science, such methods proposed thousands of years ago have been seen as the most authoritative and popularity methods in our now scientific research. And in another part of our human characteristic, people in one period of time are not have great different in another period of time, such as people's lazy, greed and so on. Many crime were caused by such characteristics no matter at present or in the past. From that point of view, people in different period of time dose not have vast different or at least people in various time share the same are much more than the difference.

Furthermore, in my opinion the chief benefit of our study of history is not to realize whether people in one period of time was different from in another period of time or to break down the illusion, I think the chief benefit of study of history is to learn the lessons and experience from the past and avoid the tragedy happened in history reoccurrence at present. For example, the Second World War gave people from all over the world a huge calamity, countless innocent people died, many nations' civilization ruined in a twinkling, all these inhumane actions were taken just because of the Nazi's wild desire and maniacal racial discrimination. So, nowadays both government and public should realize the dangerous of war and must prevent such world war happen again. In the sphere of business, we also learn the potential crisis from the past. At the end of 2008, the global economic crisis sweep the world due to some businessman over load the sub prime loan in order to maximize their profits, but they ignore the capacity of whether the lender can pay their credit and over optimistic about the market. If the government and businessman do not learn a lesson from this economic crisis, our human will suffer the second, the third economic crisis. To sum up, in my point of view, study history is to teach us what we should do at present and in the future so as to guarantee we will not undergo the same disasters in future. History is a guidance for people, it teaches us what can we do and what we mustn't do. Only our human being conform the tendency of the development of history, can we enjoy a peaceful life.

In conclusion, due to the same of people's characteristic people live in different period of time remain the same more or less, to acknowledge the same is not the chief benefit of studying history, though study history we should conclude the regulations of the history and acclimate to them, thus we will have sustainable development.
