208 The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people. Is it difficult to have a understanding of one society from the top to bottom? What is the necessary method to achieve the goal? As we know, the society is so complex and varies so it isn't so uncomplicated for us to have a understanding especially a full one. Then, it is definitely important through obserbing the behavior and appearance of its people to have know someting concernig a society. What's more, through the art work of the society, it is necessary to have a much deeper recongization of the society's ideas and values.
Through observing the daily appearance and behavior of individuals is a convenient and indispensable way to recongnise one society. The individuals are the component of the culture and the behavior and appearance of them can ,of course, reflect the thought of them. Further more, the thought can embody the trends of the society including the admiration and cultural quality which is a essential part of one society's culture and ideas as well as values. For example in the westen country, it is so common that seeing a man or lady who is enjoying their lunch while walking on the street. That clearly presents the socirty' idea and value is the efficiency which led to no one wants to wast any time on some nonsignificant things. Maybe it is just a aspect of the culture, but that illustates through observing the apprearance and behavior of its people is a valid way to recongise the society.
But simply through that method will lead to lacking in the depth and range of recongization about one society. After all, what we observes is just the daily part of the people which can only tells me some about the daily aspect. It is no doublt that there ara some parts of the whole society ideas and values that can be releave in the daily life So it is obvious for us to get another way to supplement the understanding of the society.
Necessaryly through the art work belonging to one's society, can we have a much deeper understanding. The art work including the article,film and music, is the abstract and brief chronicles of the time because the art work records the background of the culture and reflects the people's inside feel and thought which may never be spoken out. So it is, totally, a new perspective through the artist's view that we can be provided a emotional image in a absract way to observe the society . For instance the novel Necklace wrotten by Maupassant discribed a poor wife borrowed a necklace to attend an upper classes dancing party which led to loosing the borrowed necklace. Despite the sympathy for the poor woman, the author also express the feeling of disatistified about the vanity. It is just a reflection of the culture in that period and a hardly founded aspect of society.
For a complete understanding of a society, it is necessary through both methods, abserving the behavior and apprearance of its people and study the art work of that society. Since it is under the danger of ignoring some aspect of the idea and value of the society, without the study in either way of those to recongise the society will led to a misunderstand.
