TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
This issue argues that the truly effective way of education is to be specially designed to meet the individual needs and interest of each student. While, I can only find my partly agreement with that notion, since teaching students through specifically designed for each student or teaching all students in the same way is not an alternative choice. There we can still find a balance between these two extremes.
There are two main arguments that can brace the author's conclusion. The first one is that people are born with various characters, potentials and talents, companying with their growth, the difference gets larger. According to that, a same method of education towards hundreds and thousands of students seems attic and useless.
In ancient china, a famous philosophy and teacher, Confucius, used different ways to teach his seventy-two students. He told the student who is easy to be impulsion to think twice before he making any decision; he told the student who is easy to be hesitate to make decisions in a shorter time. And finally, his students all achieve success in various areas. From that example, we can clearly see the advantage of specifically designed education, that it can stimulate students potentials and avoid their shorts, it can create useful person for various aspects in our society.
Secondly, the specifically designed education can let students study with interest rather than force them just to receive knowledge without interest like a machine. And the interest this kind of education developed is beyond all doubt the best teacher for the students' education on the contrary. After this kind of education, the things like Edison was leave out by his primary school will not happen again.
On the other hand, the extent of this specifically design is important. As school is a place need to teach a lot of people, it is impossible for it to meet every person's need and interest. The limit resource may restrict it open up various courses provided for all the students. Consequently, for my part, the education systems like schools and so on, should pay respect and attention to their students’ different ways of developing as well as considering their own teaching resources to meet their students’ needs.
In addition, a specifically designed education may weaken the students' attention on the main and basic subjects. In order to solve this problem, I think the education systems can set up compulsory courses which is essential and taken into strict examination combine with the self-selective courses which can explore student's knowledge and benefit to their major courses' learning. After this, we can assure students' compulsory qualities as well as their characteristic development.
To sum up, the education systems should try their best to offer more liberty, more autonomy to their students education quality is pledged |
