The speaker asserts that the immediate problems of today merit more attention from governments, in contrast to the anticipated problems of the future. Although I concede to reach a consensus to some extent with the speaker on the importance of addressing immediate problems, from a long-term point of view, governments should make commensurate efforts to solve future problems in the meantime.

First, there is no denying the fact that governments are obliged to resolve immediate problems in society, which lies in their responsibilities dictated by the constitution. The governments aim to preserve the stability of society and guarantee the well-being of the citizens. While the immediate problems make negative effects on people's daily lives, throwing threats to their safety and health, impeding the rise of economy, or even creating danger to the worldwide peace, the governments need to focus on solving them right away. In 2003, when SARS spread nationally in a formidable trend, the Chinese governments made expeditious measures to control the tolls and provided abundant financial foundation to the research for the cure of the disease, which obviously suppressed the plague and protected both the stability of society and the health of citizens. During the last economy depression, the governments of each country carried out corresponding rescue plans to resurrect the economy and recover the people's lives. A more recent immediate problem is the terrorism throughout the world, which harm the world peace considerably. Governments, such as White House, have adopted a series of actions in order to eradicate the terrorism and maintain the peace in the whole world. In a word, immediate problems are directly connected to our current interests, and thus should be placed sufficient emphasis on.

Nevertheless, we should not overlook the necessity of solving the anticipated problems of the future. As human beings, we possess a sense of historical responsibility, which calls for us to take into account the welfare of our descendants. We do not have any privilege to deprive of the interests of our progenies. Otherwise, we may risk committing blunders and afflicting our descendants with grievous sufferings. For instance, the fallacious notion of polluting before administrating has resulted in increasing serious environmental problems, making it even harder for us to mitigate the negative influences. And China has witnessed that the lack of control in population during the last century hampers the development of economy and culture. Meanwhile, another predictable problem in the foreseeable future is the exhaustion of the resources. To guarantee the sustainable development, many governments have commenced large quantity of relevant research to seek for the alternative resources.

Therefore, what we require is a comprehensive perspective which takes into account both immediate problems and anticipated ones, and advisory means by which governments distribute the resources reasonably on both issues. As a matter of fact, it is governments’ tasks to serve as the distributor of public resources and allocate funds proactively. Governments should make a systematical plan of allocating the resources, based on the potential effects of these problems rather than short-sighted benefits.

To sum up, immediate problems of today and anticipated problems of the future should be equally considered by governments. Without consideration about the immediate problems, the society is doomed to become nothing but havoc. Yet without attention to the anticipated problems, our prosperity of the contemporary society will turn out to be meteoric and won’t last for long.
