观点：摄像机与书面记载相比较的确具有某些长处，但也有不可忽略的短处；书面记载仍然是不可取代的，综合利用，这样可以更好的记录下今天的生活。

With the development of photography, taking video records has been more and more convenient and widely used. I agree with the speaker’s assertion that video records are more vivid than written records. However, video records are restricted to certain conditions. Written records still have value that cannot be substituted. Therefore, we can look for a new form of documentation which combines advantages of both recording methods to log our world.

Admittedly, video records are important and have many advantages over written records. Video records, what we can see and hear, can be more detailed and straightforward than written records. If a writer tells us that a girl is beautiful, we can only guess the girl’s look by imagine. Obviously, a video is much more vivid. Moreover, video records can also be much easier to understand. For example, when we watch weather forecast, satellite imageries show us what cloud system looks like, and enable ordinary people to know how typhoon comes and goes. Without the imageries, only experts can understand what the data of clouds mean. Furthermore, since video records can influence on people directly, they can be more inspiring and impressive. Take 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony for example, which makes me nearly burst into tears, I think that no written documentations can be more impressive than the videos, since language cannot reappear the grand spectacle. Besides, video records can be more objective, because recorders cannot totally decide what they log.

Nevertheless, the video has its own fatal limitations what determines it cannot take the place of written records. The video camera only works when the power source and light can satisfy its needs, thus it cannot record at all times and all places that we need. The applications must be maintained regularly. The cost of video records is higher than written records. In addition, video cameras only document thing at the same time it happens. Thus recorders cannot make additions if they missed the occasion. What is more, the video cameras have little use when documenting one’s mind. Videos might reflect only the surface of things, while written records can provide the essentials, backgrounds and recorders’ analysis to help readers understand them. It often takes less time to read a written file than to watch a video, especially when we just need results. Although written records only have one way to record things, the importance of this method should not be ignored. At present, written records cannot be replaced by video records.

Finally, since both methods have their unique superiority, we can try to create a new recording method which combines the two method. It is very likely that the new method will be thorough. For instance, a sports meeting, it is likely that audience would like to watch how athletes performs themselves by videos, which is more vivid and thus attractive. But written records are more convenient to inform people the results, and videos are not necessary. When it comes to historical events such as wars, though videos can tell us how tragic they are, it is very important to take written records to analysis why wars happen and to count the results.

To sum up, video records are vivid and objective in a way; written records are easy to take and can provide in-depth information. Without either of them we cannot have a detailed and objective record. Taking above reasons into consideration, I strongly recommend that recorder build on a multimedia to document our world.
