How do the technologies work on social customs and ethics? When asked such question, most of the people may think, as what the speaker asserts that technologies are playing a decisive effect on social customs and ethics. However, I totally disagree with such assertion. In my point of view, Technologies can hardly determine social customs and ethics but largely influenced them as time goes by.

To begin with, it is difficult for technologies to determine social customs and ethics, because both of them are developed basing on their cultural, historical and national background. And most of the customs and ethics are inherited from the ancestors, and adjusted by everyday life. The development of technology can not determine people's social religions, moral disciplines and ritual performance accordingly. After hundreds of year’s social development, the Muslims still visit the Mosques on Friday and keep fasting during the month of Ramadan. Muslim women drive automobiles, wear jeans and using IPhone, but they still wear veils. No matter how technologies develop, social customs and ethics can not be easily changed by technologies.

We have to be aware of the incapability of technologies, and we also need to admit the influence technologies have placed on social customs and ethics. Technologies impulse the social customs and ethics, but sometimes they also hamper the development of the two.

Technologies facilitate the society and way of life, thus they help to preserve the social customs and ethics, and drive them forwards. It is common for people to go to church and do confession every month in a Catholic Society, but as the economy develops, people get busier, they hardly find time to go for confession routinely every month. The technology of internet makes the on-line confession become true. Through a computer which can access to internet, people can confess to a priest at anytime and any place. Moreover, as the genetic technology develops, more people find that marrying a close relative may cause serious hereditary defects and more and more countries consider such kind of marriage against morality.

At the meanwhile, technologies will also bring problems to social customs and ethics. Some of the social customs are fading as the technologies develop. For instance, in the ancient China, people wrote in brush pen and most of the educated were good at calligraphy. However, as the developing of other writing tools and computer word processors, calligraphic writing as one of the popular social customs now gradually becomes pale and feeble. Another example is about the surrogacy. The surrogate mother is hired to get pregnant with the baby and intends to relinquish it after birth. This kind of technology largely helps families with female infertility problems and indeed brings happiness back to those parents. However, the new mother-child relationship has long been questioned by the critics and challenged by social moral standards. Some feminists even consider that the surrogate motherhood is a form of commodifying and dismembering the female body and thus a patriarchal form of violence, not unlike prostitution. It is plainly true that, the development of technologies more or less risk the social customs and ethics.

To sum up, it is too hasty to conclude that technologies actually determine social customs and ethics according to some superficies. Many facts prove that, technologies are not the key reason for the changes but they do have great influences on social customs and ethics, no matter positive or negative.

评语:
观点清晰,开头转述有点不太准确,应该说as one assertion of the speaker, speaker 强调两个方面,当然中心落在后面,行文还是很好的体现出来了。。。。

文章的逻辑不错,把握非常好。。。。继续加油。。。
