只是一些个人意见的~仅供参考~我是按照“如果是我的话我就会。。。”这种思维来改的,所以只是供你参考啦,因为我也是快考试了,纯属个人看法,肯定比不了那些大牛的意见~~
In this era of knowledge explosion as well as fierce competition, how to learn more quickly and more effective plays a decisive role as to whether a student can succeed in the future. However, whether learning more quickly by memorizing stubborn facts in the first place or learning more effectively via acquiring the inherent ideas, trends, and concepts before studying the facts is more significant(我觉得换成the more significant facts更好,要不两个is看起来有些别扭) is a continuously controversial issue in the society. As far as I’m concerned, students should combine the two mentioned methods and then strike a balance between they(them) in order to maximize the effectiveness of studying.
By memorizing the facts before we have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those then can result in a better and faster understanding of the facts themselves. (我觉得这句话中应该强调一下in some subject or to a certain group of students, memorize the fact is necessary,显得逻辑更严密一些,然后后边分别论述在elementary school和learning language的时候是这种情况)After all, students, especially elementary school students, are not equipped with enough background knowledge of the fact they are learning. As a result, it would be both unnecessary and difficult for them to have a profound grasp of the ideas, trends, and concepts before learning the facts. Another paradigmatic example that supports this opinion is about the study of a foreign language. Although understanding the origin of English words would certainly help a student from a(应该去掉a吧) non-English speaking countries, it would be both time-consuming and impractical to do so. In fact, it would be much more efficient to memorize the words at first, and leave the job of understanding the background information of the words in the second place.
However, relative concepts, trends, and ideas serve as the catalyst of motivating students the eagerness to learn the stubborn facts thus having a more profound understanding(我觉得如果是表达“意义”的意思,用significance更合适) of them. For one thing, often, the facts are too sterile to provoke the students interest to learn them, as well as too difficult to be memorized if we don't have a good understanding of the background information of them. This is particularly true in areas such as pure mathematics and theoretic physics, in which concepts and formulas are so abstract that can easily turn the students’ interest into dust, however, if the teacher can guide the class smoothly and make the process of learning as interesting as watching movies(我觉得这句话好像没说完的感觉,加上“,that would be a total different situation.”会不会感觉好些). For instance, by telling the anecdote of Archimedes’s invention of the theory of buoyancy, the students’ motivation of exploring the nature in everyday life will be aroused. For another, even if students have managed to memorize the facts, they may never have a profound understanding of them without a good command of the information behind the facts. For example, in terms of the study of history, if a student only try to remember historical events without putting these events in specific situations, he/she will treat the different historical events separately and then will never have a deep understanding of the cause-and-effect relationship between them. And this will undermine the purpose of studying history, which is to provide guidance to the current society. From this example, we can safely(我觉得换成surly, consequently之类的更好) draw the conclusion that only if a student combines the background information concerning specific fact with the fact itself can he really master the genuine merit of subject he/she is involved in.
(这一段因为比较长,我觉得如果是我的话,会在这段开头说“我准备着重从两方面来论述”,然后再for one thing和for another,要不然感觉离得很远,逻辑上不够紧密)
Moreover, if we place too much emphasis on learning(根据后边的例子我觉得把learning改成merely memorizing更好) the facts, the genuine objective of study, which is to use what we have learnt to solve existing problems, will be undermined.(要是我写,会加上一句In another words, we might fail to develop our critical thinking skills,与后边例子更呼应) Although a student who have a good command of mere facts will prone to gaining admission of a renowned university and will continue to be competitive to be honored scholarship in the university because he is always good at taking exams. Yet, a student like this will achieve not as much as a student who is not so good at taking exams but has a good master of critical thinking skills, which originates from his early training on the study of ideas, trends, and concepts that lie under the face of the facts. Students who own this kind of ability will always have an insightful understanding of the essence of a question even if specific situations vary from case to case, which is of great significance to tacking tough issues that differ from what we have learnt in the textbooks.
To sum up, while studying the mere facts before understanding the ideas, trends, and concepts is benefit to the process of study and serve as the shortcut for the students to pursue current interest, in order to cultivate our descendents into genuine talents in the future, a good command of the ideas, trends, and concepts relevant to the facts is not only helpful to understand the facts but also indispensable for the progress of the society as well as the success of the students. (个人认为结尾段应该用更简洁些的句子,这样的长句有些让人觉得看不出想强调的到底是哪一点)
